Important Information for Students
REMINDER: SVSU allows students to enroll in course when students have course pre-requisites in progress. After grading each semester, student registrations for later semesters are reviewed. Students who have not received a "C" grade in pre-requisite courses will be dropped from the next course.
REMINDER: All students have an SVSU e-mail account. University offices use this account as an official means of communication. Students are responsible for checking their SVSU e-mail account frequently.
Fall 2010 and Winter 2010 Academic Calendars
Graduation Application Deadlines for Winter 2010: November 25, 2009.
Each candidate for a degree should file a written application, accompanied by the $50 graduation fee, in the Registrar’s Office beginning November 9. The application deadline for Winter graduation is November 25, 2009. The sooner that you apply, the sooner that your graduation audit will be completed. All documentation and official transcripts of transferred credits must be on file in the Registrar’s Office at the time the application is submitted. Late applications and documentation may cause the candidate to be considered for a later graduation date. The Commencement Program will be ready for publication on February 26, 2010 ; applicants after that date will not appear in the program. Commencement date: May 8, 1:30 p.m.

Cardinal Direct
Cardinal Direct provides current enrollment information through the "Course Schedule Lookup" and "Search for and Register" features. Students can also view and print their academic histories, their class schedules, and their account balances. Students can pay outstanding balances by credit card or e-check on Cardinal Direct, or by check (no credit cards accepted in person) at the Cashier's Office, W166.
SVSU does not mail printed class schedules or tuition bills. Your schedule and bill are available on Cardinal Direct. All courses may be dropped for non-payment of any balance due. You are responsible for dropping courses you do not want. DO NOT assume that some one will drop courses for you.
Registration Eligibility
All students must be currently admitted to SVSU prior to registering. Students whose last semester of attendance was prior to the Fall 2007 must file an application for readmission in the Registrar’s Office to register for Winter 2010. Students whose last semester of attendance was prior to Summer 2008 must file an application for readmission in the Registrar's Office to register for Fall 2010. Students who have been academically dismissed from SVSU must contact the Registrar’s Office to be considered for readmission after two full semesters.
All obligations to SVSU offices must be cleared prior to registration. All SVSU courses must be registered in accordance with this schedule. Courses beginning during the semester must be registered for during the current registration periods.
Directed study and tutorial applications are available in the Registrar’s Office. The applications should be completed and submitted to the Registrar’s Office with the course request form according to the registration schedule. Directed study and tutorial registrations for Fall 2010 will be accepted on April 5, and during later registration periods.
Check proposed courses to insure you have met all prerequisites or have them in progress at SVSU. Students who do not receive a "C" in a prerequisite course will be dropped from the later course. Students will not be allowed to register for a course without the prerequisite unless they have written permission of the course instructor on a registration form.
Courses numbered below 100 are not included in degree credits earned. The computer system does not count current credits toward class standing.
Academic Advisement and Basic Skills Policies
Students on academic probation are required to receive academic advising prior to registering. Probationary students who fail to meet with an advisor will be blocked from registration. Each undergraduate student must complete all Basic Skills testing prior to registration or registration will be blocked. Freshmen and undecided students should consult with an academic advisor; for assistance, contact the Academic Advisement Center at (989) 964-4286.
Withdrawal from Courses, Non-Refund
Students are academically and financially responsible for all their registrations. Please refer to the semester calendars for course withdrawal deadlines.
Course Cancellations
Courses that do not meet minimum enrollment standards as of the end of the last day of registration before the semester begins (August 18 for Fall 2008) will be canceled. An SVSU representative will attempt to contact students who have enrolled in canceled courses.

Veterans Information
A student eligible for veterans educational benefits should submit a request for certification to the Registrar’s Office. Credit hours needed for benefits are:

Tuition and Fees and Payment Policies
Tuition and fee rates are set by the Board of Control and are subject to change without notice. Tuition and fee rates, payment policies and payment instructions are listed on our web site at Student Financial Services. Credit hour cost is determined by the level of the course, not the student's class standing.
SVSU offices cannot accept credit card payments. Payment in cash or by check may be made at the Cashier's Office (166 Wickes Hall). Credit card payments and e-check payments may be made using Cardinal Direct. VISA is not accepted. The Cashier's Office is open from 9 am to 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday. A 24-Hour Payment Center is located on the first floor of Wickes Hall in the east corridor that leads to Brown Hall.
Payment Deadline for Winter 2010: Payment in person or through Cardinal Direct must be received by 6 p.m., Wednesday, December 2, 2009. Payment by mail must be received by December 2 and addressed to: SVSU Cashier’s Office, 7400 Bay Road, University Center, MI 48710. Postmarks will not be honored. When paying by mail, please include your student ID number with your check or money order.

Students who have outstanding balances after the July 28 payment deadline will be dropped from their classes.
Scholarships and financial aid may not fully cover tuition, fees, and other costs (e.g., housing). Students receiving financial aid through the Office of Scholarships and Student Financial Aid must pay any balance due by the 6 p.m. deadline, July 29, to avoid having courses dropped.
Students who have all of their tuition and fees paid by the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid, and do not desire to attend SVSU Fall or Winter semesters, must inform the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid prior to the first day of the semester and drop their courses. Only the Registrar’s Office is authorized to drop courses for students; no other office or staff member can drop courses for a student. To be dropped from a course, students must file a course withdrawal in the Registrar’s Office, or inform the Registrar’s Office in writing by mail or fax. Written notification must include the student’s name, Social Security Number, course information (line number and course name), and the student’s signature. You are financially obligated to pay for any courses from which you do not officially withdraw.
Students who register during Registration/Schedule Adjustment or Late Registration Add/Drop are required to make payment in full at the Cashier’s Office or through the 24 Hour Payment Center or by credit card using Cardinal Direct. Courses not paid for will be dropped immediately by the Registrar’s Office.

Student Employment
Students who are interested in working on campus must submit a Student Employment Application, which is available from the Career Planning and Placement Office (111 Curtiss Hall) or on the department’s website (www.svsu/edu/careers/). Evening Services Information and Office Hours
The Evening Services Office is open 12:30 to 8:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Friday to provide the following services to evening students and adjunct faculty:

- Information on University programs and special events
- Collection of course withdrawal forms
- Assistance with emergencies

In Case of Emergency
In case of an emergency requiring police and/or medical assistance, contact Saginaw Central Dispatch at 911 (from off campus), or 9-911 (from on campus).
Public Safety Report
As required by the Crime Awareness and Campus Security Act of 1990, the Department of Public Safety distributes an annual Crime Awareness Report that describes campus criminal activity and related safety issues. For a copy of the report, call (989) 964-4141 or view online.
Voter Registration
SVSU encourages all students to exercise their right to vote. If you have not registered to vote, you now are able to obtain Voter Registration forms at the University. The forms are available in the Student Association Office, Campus Life Center, Evening Services and Registrar’s Office.
Closing Campus During Adverse Weather
Adverse weather conditions, especially those associated with Michigan winters, may affect the normal operations of the University. If adverse conditions necessitate cancellation or closing, the decision to do so will be made prior to 6:30 a.m. for day classes (those beginning before 4 p.m.) and by 2:30 p.m. for evening classes.

Student Counseling Center
The Student Counseling Center serves as a Mental Health and Substance Abuse referral resource for students. Counseling Center staff provide assessments, crisis intervention, community referrals and psychoeducational classes. All services are confidential.
