Soccer Field Named for Braddock

The Board of Control named our soccer facility “Robert Braddock Field” during the Board’s meeting Saturday. As many of you know, Bob was a passionate and persistent advocate for soccer at SVSU, coaching our club team for 15 years. He also served as director of international programs and continues to promote international study – he’s currently on a study abroad trip in England with nearly 30 students. Athletics is honored to have our soccer field named for this distinguished faculty member.

Spring Semester Starts Today

While Saturday’s Commencement ceremonies mark the end of one academic year, classes continue today with the start of the spring term. When final numbers come in, we expect to have around 3,300 students enrolled this spring. Enrollments in online classes have been especially healthy.

Parking Lot Expansions Coming

The Board also approved expanding two parking lots.  We’ll be adding 191 spaces to parking lot C, located east of Davis Road, and 230 spaces to parking lot F, located north of Brown Hall. These projects are in response to an upcoming reduction of 270 parking spaces in lot E, as part of plans to add a field house with an indoor track to the Ryder Center. Combined with the previous approval to expand lot J-1 near Curtiss Hall and a few other minor projects, our campus will see a net gain of 440 spaces when all projects are complete. But I’m not kidding myself – this will still not mute the complaints from students disappointed by inevitable inconveniences.
