My congratulations to our colleagues who have been selected to receive support through the Herbert H and Grace A Dow Professor Award. This program is vital to supporting both student success and retention rates, and I appreciate the hard work and engaging effort put forth by faculty members dedicated to keeping our institution strong. Here are the faculty members and the projects supported by this year’s grants:
My compliments to our colleagues in the nursing program who organized the sixth annual Carleen K. Moore R.N. Nursing Excellence awards Tuesday during National Nurses Week. These awards recognize the continual dedication, quality service and front-line leadership exhibited by nurses in clinical practice, education, leadership and community service. Awards were presented in the categories of acute care, nurse educator, long-term care/rehabilitation and nursing in the community. Recipients are as follows:
I’d like to thank faculty and staff who joined us Thursday to learn more about the SVSU “We” marketing campaign that kicked off recently. Our friends in University Communications and The Image Group, the marketing firm helping to strengthen the university’s brand, showcased some of the imagery, audio and ideas that will — and already are — boldly broadcasting SVSU’s values and appeal to a wider audience than ever before. Our new messages can be seen on billboards located on I-675 (near the Davenport exit) and on Tittabawassee Road (west of Meijer) and heard on many local radio stations. “We” already know why SVSU is great. This campaign will share what we already know with the rest of the world. If you weren’t able to attend and want to know more about the campaign, University Communications is scheduling 15- to 30-minute group learning sessions. Please contact ext. 4039 to request one of these sessions.
Marilyn Wheaton, director of our Marshall M. Fredericks Sculpture Museum, received well-deserved recognition Thursday during The Saginaw Arts and Enrichment Commission’s 27th Annual All Area Arts Awards. She received the Great Lakes Bay Regional award, given to an individual or institution that encourages a thriving arts environment. SVSU as an institution received the same honor two years ago, and I’m pleased to see Marilyn is being recognized for her individual work. The museum is one of the cultural gems of our entire region and Marilyn has done an incredible job keeping it that way for years. She also is involved in a number of organizations dedicated to strengthening the region’s culture.
Our Cardinal Formula Racing team once again is competing at the Michigan International Speedway for the 2016 Formula Society of Automotive Engineers Collegiate Design Series. Last year’s group had the fifth-best finish in the team’s history at this international competition right here in Michigan. A fifth-best all-time finish is exceptional considering all the outstanding cars built by our students over the years under the advisement of Brooks Byam, professor of mechanical engineering. Best wishes to this year’s team as they look to continue that legacy of excellence.
