President’s Weekly Update for Monday, April 29

Good Luck on Final Exams

Good luck to all of our students taking final exams this week. We hope you have a good summer, and – except for those who will be graduating – we look forward to seeing you again in August for another great year.

50th Anniversary Campaign Going Public

Our 50th anniversary fundraising campaign is about to enter the "public" phase where we will be more visible in reaching out to alumni and friends. With respect to our internal campaign, nearly 500 faculty and staff (including retirees) have contributed more than $850,000. Thanks much to all of you for your generous support.

SVSU Board to Consider New Swim Program and Important Roof Repairs

Our Board of Control meets Saturday, May 11 and two agenda items are of particular interest.  They will consider adding men's and women's swimming as varsity sports. They also will consider replacing roofs for Curtiss Hall and the Performing Arts Center, the Ryder Center, and Wickes Hall. The last round of rainstorms made it apparent that these repairs are even more urgent.

SVSU Goes Worldwide

We have 144 students who will be going on 11 separate faculty-led study abroad trips this spring/summer. This is a significant increase over last year. These are extraordinary opportunities for our students and provide exceptional teaching moments for participating faculty. Our best wishes to all of them.
The list of countries they are visiting is as follows:
  • China: David Berry, Andrea Frederick, Jean Prast
  • China/Japan/Taiwan: Andy Swihart, Anne Tapp, Brian Thomas
  • England: Jules Gehrke, Robert Braddock
  • Germany/the Netherlands: Julie Keil, John Kaczynski
  • Ireland: Barb and Lou Cohen
  • Italy: Shaun Bangert, Michelle Randall
  • Japan: Elson Boles
  • Nepal: Elizabeth Roe, Marcia Shannon
  • Senegal: Sara Beth Keough, Scott Youngstedt
  • Taiwan: Elizabeth Rich
  • Zambia: Ellen Herlache, Renee Hernandez, Ava Lewis
