Enrollment The Plan calls for enrollment growth at a rate of 3%
per year, to reach a total of 10,000 students by 2005. This would
build upon a 37-year growth trend for this institution.
This past fall, our overall enrollment grew by 2.9%; winter semester
enrollment increased by 3% over last year.
Three additional points might be informative in this regard. First,
the Plan projects an increase in graduate enrollments to a total
of 2,000 students by 2005 – and at present this appears to be on
track to reach that goal. International students are projected to
reach 6% of our total student body by 2005, and here too increases
have continued at a pace which should achieve that goal.
International students have clearly helped to make this campus
a more cosmopolitan place. And it is worth noting that four of the
eight scholarships awarded by the Faculty Association last year
went to international students.
The full picture cannot be focused without noting that one particular
academic unit, the College of Education, has experienced quite extraordinary
growth. Total credit hours taught have increased by 53% during a
five-year period.
