Vocabulary
Throughout the Social Science Education Reform project an attempt has been made to identify the vocabulary words students need to know in order to develop an understanding of the material that is being taught. In addition, there are some vocabulary terms that are essential to successfully completing the Social Studies MEAP test.
Those participating in the project believe that it is important for teachers to use vocabulary terms that students will need to become familiar with during their study of the Social Sciences. Although some of these terms may seem advanced for a particular grade level, it is important that teachers use these terms in their daily teaching so students gradually become familiar with them. Those terms that are marked with an asterisk (*) are intended for teacher use, and not for student mastery.
