The Saginaw Valley State University College of Education is revamping teacher preparation and addressing the needs related to teacher and administrator shortages and retention, content area competency for teachers, and the integration of best practices and technology through partnership collaboration.
To enhance the preparation of teachers to meet the vital needs of students, teachers and administrators in the Saginaw Valley State University service region, the Partnership Grant has four goals:
- Curriculum Revision - Revamp undergraduate teacher preparation in core content and methods courses to model best teaching practices and incorporate technology and practical examples which demonstrate how to apply course content to the K-12 classroom.
- Professional Development - Provide sustained clinical and mentoring resources for continual professional growth to enable K-12 teachers in our service area to meet national and state standards for student achievement.
- Educational Leadership - Initiate new leadership development opportunities for area K-12 educators and administrators.
- Accelerated Certification - Implement an alternative teacher certification process.
Partners
The Saginaw Valley State University (SVSU) College of Education has initiated this Partnership Grant for Improving Teacher Quality through collaboration by the following stakeholders:
- Saginaw Valley State University (SVSU) administrators and faculty
- School and University Partnerships Office (PSA)
- University Chartered Public School Academies, eight of which are located in Detroit, a designated empowerment zone
- Intermediate School Districts (ISDs) in our 24 county service region, all which have high-need LEAs, two of which are located in designated enterprise communities
- Personnel from community businesses
- City and county representatives
- Educational organization representatives
