Improving Teacher Quality - Title II Grant

Curriculum Revision

We are revamping the teacher preparation process in order to address needs related to teacher and administrator shortages and retention, content area competency, and the integration of standards, best practices, technology, and diversity. To measure our progress, we have identified baseline criteria, four major components or "strands" will be evident in the final product of the team's efforts.

SVSU faculty members from the College of Education, College of Science, Engineering and Technology, College of Arts and Behavioral Sciences, as well as Master Teachers from both the Elementary and Secondary level participate in a year-long collaboration.

Content Development Teams (CDTs) are required to complete multiple tasks directed toward several goals of the Teacher Quality Grant. These tasks include:

  • Revamping the existing courses in both the content area and teacher preparation programs
  • Developing and delivering in-services and workshops with practical application
  • Writing manuals that include teaching units and materials that integrate technology for placement in the Regional Education Resource Center
  • Contributing to the online support of a broader learning community
