Moodle Student Survey - Winter 2006

How did Moodle enhance learning in this course

How did Moodle enhance learning in this course?

Moodle allowed to have discussions on the site. This was good because it gave people the chance to state their opinion on the site if they didn't want to do it in front of the class.

Only by allowing us to access the class material the teacher posted as a reminder for the lectures.

I wouldn't say that it did assist. It worked okay. I generally was not too impressed with the program. The online grade book is a pain and confusing. The professor does not have control over the grade book which makes it difficult. For example, if an online quiz was taken through moodle, and the professor wanted to or needed to change the grade the student received, he/she could not because moodle would not let them override the system. Because of this, my grade is skewed as I have an assignment showing up as a 0 with the correct grade showing up in a misc collumn. Overall, I thought the program was okay, but I personally like blackboard much better.

I suppose the same way blackboard would have-through discussions online.

The Wikis set up through Moodle provided a convienent and managable way to construct a collaboratively written document that was required for the course.

It was a great communication tool.

Solutions to homework was posted to moodle.  Also, notes to homework was posted to moodle.

Provided external links to relevant materials; received feedback from other students and professor; and weekly assignments were posted.

We were easily able to see what others had done and posted.  And when our teacher had to not be in class, we were still able to do some lessons online.

It was easier to use than blackboard.

uploading an assignment to turn in was fast and hastle free.

It forced me to look up defenitions and read more carefully because I had to post what I learned for my grade.

I loved having access to links (tutorials) and being able to upload assignments.  Also, the announcements function was a helpful way to make sure I was on the same page as my instructor in regard to week-to-week expectations that deviated from the syllabus.  Also, I could keep track of my grades.

My professor put up all the assignments on Moodle and it was our responsibility to check them.

It help me to learn that using another program besides blackboard is more convenient to use and it doesn't take long to log in.

Moodle was used instead of Blackboard for my course this semester. Assignments, discussions, and other relevant materials were posted on Moodle to enhance the course's content.

I really liked the Wiki and Glossary functions. It was helpful to understand and explore confusing key terms.

N/A

It was a different way to have a class discussion.

It did not really assist me, it was more of an online syllabus.

My professor posted homework problems and their solutions on Moodle, as well as solutions to problems we did in class. It was good to be able to use Moodle to check answers. Also some of our assignments were given through Moodle and had to be turned in through Moodle.

It was easy to keep track of assignments, resources, etc. I had a little confusion when it came to which discussion groups I had taken part it.. (there were a lot, and I lost track).

Was nice to have an updated week to week schedule to follow

I think black board is much easier to use

Nothing really.  It was just like blackboard.  I liked blackboard and moodle the same.  BUt moodle gives u more of a chance to answer and duscuss questions.

Moodle made it easy to turn in assignments digitally.  I also had access to material covered during each class throughout the whole semester and easy access to my grades.

Our teacher was away, so everythig was done over moodle, and we had class discussions on it.

It was very easy to use.  The layout of moodle was user friendly.

Prof. posted notes for me to download before class. Grades were also made available online before next class meeting.

I thought it was really great how we could have all of the links and information we needed right at the tip of our fingers. There was so much additional information available on Moodle, it was like having a dozen more textbooks and none of the price! It allowed the professor to customize the information directly to us and cater to our particular class needs. Because our professor embraced it so much, it made me want to find out all that it could do to help me in class. I think Moodle is great!

I liked it a lot because my professor could comment on my papers directly from moodle.

Moodle was used as a communication link between students and professor.  Most of the assignments were turned in to Moodle via the digital dropbox.

The Wiki was nice for trying to put together group projects.  I would use wikis in the future.

Allowed the professor to post files necessary to the course.

I hated Moodle.  It is harder to navigate than blackboard.

It took a while to get used to moodle, but I think overall it met the same needs as blackboard.  Our assignments were always posted, as were the due dates.  That was a big help.  Also it was nice to see my grades as the teacher put them in.

Moodle looks like a useful tool, but the only options we used for this class was the instructor posted assignments along with a handful of links and the students used the discussion board.  Overall, moodle is hard to rate because I think it was under utilized in this course.  On the positive side, it did work well (no bugs that I could find) and was always available when I tried to login.  Once you got used to it, navigation was pretty easy.

The group interaction was usefull, but it only served to duplicated a more commonly known system already in use.

N/A.  It didn't seem to have much value, for we discussed the same things in class as on the site.

Moodle allowed my professor to post notes and other assignments online for us students to access.  It also allowed our professor to post grades online.

Helped me keep up to date on assignments in class.

Download of course documents to learn the material for the exams.

students were able to communicate easily

It was easier and quicker to find information abaout certain things concerning the course.

I like it better than blackboard -

Having programming files and powerpoint presentations online helped me in this course greatly.

I prefer Moodle over blackboard. It seems more convenient.

it didn't

We used moodle primarily to learn supplementary material.  It was also helpful in uploading assignments, asking questions of our professor and other students in the class, as well as having the ability to view our grades at will.

It provided a centralized place to retrieve course documents.

didnt really assist me

I really like how we could submit our work online and then recieve feedback from our professor... I commute, so somtimes when deadlines arent during scheduled class times the ability to submit online is wonderful!

Moodle made communication of various websites and assignments much easier.

It was great, it helped out just like blackboard

Moodle was easy to use and it was nice to come to class and already know what was going on.  The portion on discussion, grade feedback and the agenda was most useful.

Easier to use and the information is at the fingertips, however, it is tedious to have to use both Moodle and Blackboard.  It was kind of a pain.

I don't think moodle helped me.

It just gave me a place for better communication during group projects.

It didn't assist me at all.  In fact, it was a great hindrance because it was the only class I had with moodle, so I had to check blackboard for all of my other classes, but remember to go to moodle for this one.  There's no point in having two different sites such as these for class interaction.  I think the purpose was to make it more interactive for the students, but if they want to do that, they need to use something more like a messenger so that students can speak in real time- having to leave a message is no different than using email or waiting for the next class.  Actually, it's less efficient because students check their email more frequently than they check moodle, which I know because it tells you how long it has been since each person has logged in.  Moodle is pointless.

It helped with the class.

I never saw anything in Moodle that we used that was not available with  Blackboard.

Moodle was a good place for professors to put links to other website.  These sites were convient to access from Moodle, so you could find them whenever you wanted to.  If you were researching a specific topic in class, the media was right there to use.

Moodle has more powerful testing options than Blackboard.

Enjoyed the digital turn in option as opposed to handing in a hard copy, especially the online grading option that allows you to see comments in your paper.

I was able to see feedback quickly.

Easily planned the course direction and made assignments easy to access...  Much easier than BB.

Made it so simple to login and check my grades, homework and posted lecture notes. So much better than blackboard.

Having access to grades, resources, and class notes at anytime was great.

I liked that everything was there. I didn't loose my assignments and if I did then I could pull them up.

it supply me more information about what i am sudying. i can find what i need quickly.

Moodle appeared to do little to assist the class other than to provide a resource for grade updates on assignments and for class resource distribution.
