Blackboard Student Survey - Winter 2006

How did Blackboard enhance learning in this course

How did Blackboard enhance learning in this course?

Able to get notes from classs I was unable to attend.  Contact other students to see if there were any assignments I missed.

Able to review assignment requirements.  Supplemental materials available immediately.

All of my assignments and listening examples were there.  It allows me to work at all times of the day.  Plus there is helpful information about upcoming concerts for writing reports about.

All the data was readily available and it was easy for a student to go through it.

allowed for crosscultural and international group work.

allowed for seeing the opinions and ideas of the other students

allowed for us to discuss the readings for the class and see other peoples opinions on them.

Allowed me to access the group pages and communicate with my group on group projects.

allowed me to communicate with other class mates.

allowed me to communicate with profs and fellow classmates on assignments and discussions.

Allowing me to work with other students via discussion boards

allows students to access vital information from a multitude of locations.  Makes getting assignments and up to date information easier.

Allows us to read and do assignments on the computer without having to print them off. Also allows us to track our grades without having to ask the Professor whenever we are curious.

As a class, we were required to post online on the disussion boards. I liked how we got to have a sort of online chat with one another. I learned a lot from other people's postings and from the things they had to share on the boards.

Assignments, syllabus and other information was able to be downloaded.

Because of the required assignments I learned how to do more research.

Being able to communicate with group members using the discussion board is very helpful and more convenient then email.  Using BB allows everyone in the group to see the discussion, rather than only those who are sent an email.

Being able to communicate with other students is very helpful.

Being able to discuss assignments and questions with the professor and classmates was an incredible asset to this course.  Any time I had a question, there was always someone there to offer advice or an answer.

Blackboard allowed for discussion with classmates that would not have taken place in class.  It allowed for collaboration project with students from Poland.

Blackboard allowed me to get information left by my professor, as well as last minute announcemnets for the course.

Blackboard allowed me to see my grades all the time, and I always knew my standing in my classes.

Blackboard allowed me to view my progress in the class throughout the semester.  It also allowed me to have direct contact with my instructor if needed.

Blackboard allowed me to view the activities that my classmates had done and posted. (required for the course)

Blackboard allowed my classmates and I post our documents that we completed for the class so that if we wanted a copy of a lesson or a good idea we could.  This was a lot better than requiring studetns to print a paper copy of their lesson for everyone in the class.

Blackboard allows for posting of any documentation needed for class and saves me from driving 2 hours to retrieve information.

Blackboard allows out-of-class work to be done more efficiently, especially when it involves collaboration with other students.

Blackboard assisted me in my learning process because it is an easy way for my professor to stay connected.  It makes life easier to have all of the course documents electronically so that if I need info I don't have to go looking through a bunch of papers.

Blackboard can provide content that is essential to learning in the classrom.

Blackboard gave me my grades and pertinent documents I needed for this class.  Without blackboard, I would not have had my homework or rubrics.

Blackboard has allowed me to access external links for several classes that I would otherwise forget the website.  Also it has allowed me easier access to communicate with my professors.

Blackboard has helped me keep track of my assignments and has reduced the time I spent calculating gradeso on the back of my notes. It also allows me to submit assignments as I complete them, which helps to nullify the influence of my forgetfulness.

Blackboard has helped me to keep updated on grades and is helpful with announcements in terms of the professor being able to notify students about assignment changes. The class roster helps to initiate and maintain links of communication with classmates.

Blackboard has made it easier to share ideas and communicate with students and teachers. I also like to monitor my academic progress with gradebook.

Blackboard has made the classes easier for both me and the teachers.  Tearchers are putting class syllabus and course material, so all i have to do is print the material and listen to the lecture, instead of taking notes and trying to listen at the same time.  I like the fact that I can check my grades to see how I am doing.

Blackboard helped me keep track of my assignments.

Blackboard helped me to keep in contact with my group members and it also helped in terms of the discussion board.

Blackboard helped to find the notes and with this I was able to read the notes, do the assignments and many other items.

Blackboard is a usefull tool to have because it gives the instructor and the students a means of looking up their information and being able to retrieve all the information for the class that is needed outside of class time.  It is also beneficial to the professor because it gives them the ability to provide information to the students outside of class as well as during lecture time.

Blackboard is okay, once you get used to it, but it's frustrating because of the time it takes to access information. It takes seven mouse clicks to get to the group discussion board when I want to check if a group member has posted anything.  I also find blackboard confusing. There are too many pages and some seem to loop back around to where you were before. For example, the first page lists any new announcments, but when you click on your class, the announcements are there also and later you can click on a link for announcements.  Finally, I have trouble logging in at home unless I click the link from SVSU. I can't use a "favorite" because then I have to log in twice to get into Blackboard.

Blackboard keep me informed...as to grades and assignments.  I know that if I'm near a computer I can find out what I need to do for a class by accessing the sylabus or pulling up the assignment.

Blackboard made it easier for me to keep in touch with fellow classmates or even my teacher when I am outside of the classroom or even at home. It is more of a way to make life easier because I can drop off papers, talk to people, and even check my grades on there.

Blackboard makes it easy to communicate with your classmates and discuss the readings. It also helps check on your grade.

Blackboard provided me with a direct link to my professors and also to my grades.  It was great knowing that I could access my grades so quickly.

Blackboard provided notes that i needed for the class.

Blackboard provided the resources to complete assignments and allowed for assignments to be posted so that students can learn from one another.  Also, blackboard allows professors to make links to helpful sites rather than just giving the site addresses in class.

Blackboard really didn't assist me in the learning process it just made it easier and faster to find out information about the class

Blackboard was o.k. but seemed time consuming.  I would rather cover the material in class.

blackboards makes it easier to get missed info due to unforseen absenses.

By showing me the grade I am getting in the class

By using Blackboard, I got a better understanding of course material by discussing it with my peers.

check my grade, and get to links to help with homework

digital drop box

Discussion board required postings in class helped me to study for exams to a small degree.

don't teach me much

Easier access to classroom materials like syllabi, data, and presentations, as well as group discussion boards and collaborative activities.

easier access to material posted by professors in case I missed something during the lecture.

Easy access to important info: syllabus, assignments, study guide

Easy to get materials and grades online

Enables discussion amongst class members who may not ordinarily converse.  Enables one to view others opinions and perspectives. Assists in the completion of tasks among group members.

For the class English 380 we only used blackboard to post our assignments, so other classmates could print them off, and use them in the future when they become teachers.

For this course, it was mostly just used for finding course documents and rubrics for projects.  I did use it to check my score on certain projects that were usually posted before class was held.  The class was only held once a week, and sometimes I wanted to know how I did before class.

For THIS course, the announcements kept me up to date with what was going on in our class and the online grade book allowed me to check my grades quickly.

Gave information available through course notes and lecture

Good source to find all my information, comminicate with the professors and classmates.

Having assignments and course documents was very helpful especially if I lost my course calender.  Study guides online also were great because they could be downloaded onto the computer so I could fill out the study guide on my computer and print out my notes easily.

Help keep up to date on announcements and assingments

Helped me keep track of my grades.

helped me keep up to date with assignments

Helped me look at documents if I lost them.

Helped me stay on task and complete assignments by knowing when and how they needed to be submitted.

I actually don't think it has assisted my learning process, especially because a lot of the readings weren't uploaded when we needed them.

I am sick of blackboard bc my professors are never up to date with grades, and I don't know where I stand

I check it for everything.  Most professors don't hand out hard copy anymore.  They count on us using blackboard.  I could get immediate information concerning the course, my grades, communication info. etc.

I could easily communicate with my classmates and professor.

I could find links, and articles posted by the prof. Grades

I could talk with others outside of the classroom. You could ask a question and others helped you.

I could work 24 hours a day and submit assignments.

I didn't really like using blackboard at all.

I had access to assignments and the class syllabus whenever I needed it. I also could check my grade without visiting my professor.

I had neccessary information (test dates, syllabus etc.)at my fingertips.

I had necessary information (ie test dates, syllabus) at my fingertips.

I have a hard time catching and remembering all of the homework assignments that need to be finished before the following class. I know that I can always double check the assignments on blackboard. It is also helpful when the class leccure notes are posted because I don't always get everything in class. I think blackboard is a great tool to help the professors out--it helps them to stay in constant contact with the students and helps bot the teachers and students become more familar with one another more easily.

I have just bought a printer, so using digital dropbox saves me so much money. Instead of printing everything, I just digital dropbox it. Also I can get ahold of my other classmates by looking at the roster. Also I can check my grades and email the teacher if I have any questions. Also the syllabus is posted, so If I don't have my folder with me, I can check my due dates from any computer that has the internet and I can check my teachers office hours.

I have taken on-line courses at another institution, and have had other courses that used Bb. more than this class did.  I think that Bb is useful because it uses your knowledge in different ways (applied) than listening to lectures.  My on-line courses were great, because I could go to class at convienent times for me, didn't have to travel, and had class mates from all over the country and world.

I help me be come more organized because of the course documents

I just find it easier to have an update grade and for reading... instead of buying all the books to read one chapter its easy just to have it right on Blackboard.

I knew what I had to do for homework everyday.

I learned about blackboard when I went through orientation.  I also use blackboard at work, so for me I am very familiar and comfortable with it.

I learned how to email and attach a document to an email. I had never bothered to learn before because until recently I didn't have internet access at home.

I like classes where professors keep the online gradebook up to date.  I like be able to keep aprised of my grades, even before returning to class.    Additionally, it's nice to be able to access course documents (like assignment sheets, syllabus, etc.) from anywhere there is a computer w/internet connection. Therefore, if a student doesn't have a hardcopy of course documents they can still complete assignments.  It's more convenient.

I like having my grades available to me anytime online.  It also helped greatly with digital dropbox because I do not live on campus and saved time and gas.

I like how I could see my grades daily just so I knew where I stood in the class.  It made my life easier.

I like that blackboard makes my in-class assignments more accessible to me at home.  I feel like I know a lot more about what is going on in the class as far as where my professors are heading and what types of assignments and projects we will be doing, ect.

I liked how easily accessible grades were it helped me to organize my time better

I liked it because I was able to track my grade progress and now exactly how I was doing in the class.  I have used blackboard before and have found it beneficial.

I liked the group communication for class projects

I my view the Blackboard is an interesting mean of learning and I am satisfied that I may have got a contact with our American friend but I'm uncomforted that this time was shortly.

I only need it for class outline postings.  I have used other features in previous classes, but not many of my professors take advantage of Blackboard.

I put English into practice.

I really enjoy Blackboard, It helps keep me on track and gives me the right links.

i really enjoy using blackboard, it helped a lot with all of my classes

I really like having access to course material from anyplace that I have an internet access.

I think it's great.  I cannot believe all the TENURED profs around here who don't use it.  Are they afraid to learn something new or have they gotten lazy?

I think that it is silly when teachers make you use the black board site. I don't think that Black Board has helped me in my learning experience but it is nice to be able to contact people in my class if I miss a day of school.

I used blackboard mainly for obtaining course assignments and documents, as well as getting my updated grades.

I used Blackboard more last year than this year.  When used for collaboration on group projects, it is an excellent tool. The Mgt 680 class, last semester used discussion board and collaboration tools to post messages and re-edit portions of our group paper.   Blackboard is also most useful when you have a distance learning class or a portion of the class is distance learning.

i used blackboard mostly for CBA (RSO) most of my professors didn't use it, it is very very helpful, it would be best if all professors used it to enhance their classes.  even tho most are still stuck in the stone age when using computers.

I used the external links for practice quizzes.

I was able to access maps for the class field trips, access my grade the day after a test was given, and quickly e-mail Sally whenever I had a question.

I was able to collaborate with other peers in my class about different issues we were facing in our classrooms and to respond on different research articles.

I was able to communicate with my professors and peers easier. I was able to get grades faster as well.

I was able to download and print out power point slides for a class and then take with the slides in class instead of trying to take all of the notes in class

I was able to get information that the teacher had posted, which helped me study for tests.

I was able to get notes, study guides and other course material before going to class.

I was able to get the material I needed for class such as the syllabus

I was able to view my grades online so I always had some idea what my grade was in the course.  I enjoyed the fact that any essay or quiz questions given to me in class were also posted upon blackboard.  This could be helpful if I put away the questions in my folder and forget about them.  Blackboard reminds me of them.

If i did not understand something in class it was easy for me to get the in class notes and be on my own to study the section. It was easier to take the quizes because we had as much time as we needed and we could come back to it later if something came up.

I'm shy at first, so Blackboard helps me interact with fellow students through the discussion board.

Immediate feedback on quizzes.

In a previous class, blackboard was used more extensively. I liked having the syllabus on line so I could refer to it where ever I was--at home or work. I also had an instructor that used blackboard links to many other websites and that was worthwhile.

In English 380, We do not use blackboard except for the use of posting assignments.  I have 2 other classes that use blackboard for everything: digital dropbox. email, discussion board, links, etc.  I have really enjoyed using blackboard and I feel that it allows me as a student to stay connected to what is going on in the classroom.

In my classes, notes and other material were put on blackboard for our benefit.  It helped out a lot if you had to miss a class.

In this class (EDL300), Blackboard only helped for viewing your graded assignments and viewing the syllabus and other documents for the course.

It allowed a forum to get feedback from others.

It allowed for group collaboration on projects and made accessing grades very easy.

It allowed for the lessons to be put online.

It allowed me to access important documents required for the class, as well as information (such as class notes) that I missed due to absences.

It allowed me to do my work when I could get to it.

it allowed me to stay up to date with all of my assignments and if i had any questions on them and didn't have my syllubusses with me, they were posted on blackboard and i could go there to view them

It allowed me to talk about our readings with my classmates outside of class, which gave me a better understanding of the material so I was more prepared for the quizzes and exams.

It allows for a centralized place for the professor to post articles and so forth, but this is really nothing more than a cost saving method that forces the students to print all of the articles themselves rather than have the university provide them through the professors and photocopying.

It allows me to go to different sites that my Professor posts. It only takes one click.

It allows you to keep track of your grade and to make sure you know when assignments are due, class is cancelled, etc.

It didn't really, I just use it to see my grade and see what type of homework is needed for the next class

It easier to be organized and know what is going on if your teacher uses blackboard because they can be more up to date about the assigments they post and due dates.

It enabled me to interact with other classmates.

It has allowed me to keep track of my grades, assignments due, keeping in contact with my classmates (especially with regards to group work) as well as knowing important annoucements.

It has assisted my learning in courses where it was required. Discussion boards and posting assignments is a very useful tool.

It has given me the chance to go back and review some of the material that has been talked about in class.

It has help me keep in touch with my teacher through e-mal and has kept me up to date with class annocements and assignments.

It has not assisted at all in this current class (EDL 300), but was vital in TE100.  There it made communication and paper turn-in very efficient, especially since the class did not meet very often and I am lovated in Midland.

It help me be able to keep in contact with group memebers and the teacher. It made availible different site that could be used in order to enhance my class experience. It allows me to keep track of my grades and the materials I may need for the class. It is one of the most helpful things that I use day to day to get by in my classes.

It helped clarify assignments and due dates.

it helped me keep track of how i was doing

It helped me to be able to conveniently acess my grades at any time. It made it really convenient.

It helped me to get information on my class easily.  Whenever i had a question i was easy to email my professor from the site. Also it helped me to keep up with what my grade was in the class.

It helped me to have a constant link to the class and my small group!

It helped me to keep track of my grades.

It helped me to know where my class was meeting as the meeting place changed almost every class.  It helped me know what grades I had received when my teacher posted grades for assignments.  I helped me collaborate with group member over assignments.

It helped me to see the upcoming material being presented in class.

It helped out by having my assignments on black board in case I forgot to write them down.  Also I liked seeing my grade when ever I wanted to.

It helps becuse we turned in our papers on it and didn't have to print off the long papers and use up our printbalances.  it does however help with finding class presentations that you may have missed or didnt understand correctly the first time.

It helps keep me up to date on class assignments and new schedule changes. I wish all classes used blackboard.

It helps make communication and receiving information easier.

It is a very good suppliment and I think it is good to use in every class.

It is easier to find papers you need in case you miss placed the ones the professors passedout.

It is just a tool to make the classroom more accessable outside of class. Moodle works just as well.

It is nice to be able to just go online and have a service that is provided that helps with homework, use of grades, and other document availability.

It made assignments and study guides readily available at all times.

it made it easier to communicate with other students and the teacher.

It made it easier to work in groups. It was easier to communicate and just post things once.

It made it easy for me to go back and get documents to assist with understanding the course's material.

It made it easy for our professor to get announcements out to us really fast.

It made it so i could check on assignments and things even if i had lost the paper copy. this is useful if its the weekend and you cannot wait for the prof. to hand you one on monday.

It made notes/slides available.

It networked me with my classmates and provided me with important documents and announcements.

It really did not aid in my learning.  It was just nice to be able to access my grades after they were entered.

It really did not help my learning process.

It was a quick access to post/hand in homework.

It was a way for me to get materials easier and see my grades as soon as they were available.

It was easy and quick to grab assignments anywhere.

It was easy to look up what my grade was.

It was easy to obtain coiurse assignments and examples.  The teacher would upload the examples and I could either look at them on line or I could print them off.

It was good for communication with other students and teachers.

It was helpful when communicating with classmates and the teacher.

It was necessary so that I would not have to be at the actual class as much.  I teach full time and it would have been cumbersome to have to attend class.  Using Blackboard allowed us to do our classwork at work or at home without treking out to the college once a week.

It was nice to be able to get online to find out what assignments I was expected to have completed by the next class.

It was nice to have a space to answer classroom questions and interact with fellow students outside the classroom.  The teacher's input was also nice in these discussion threads.

It was okay

It was only useful to me as far as submitting assignments was concerned.  The discussion areas were infrequently used for meaningful discussion.

It was quick esay and made things more helpful for me and the rest of the class!

It was very helpful having rubrics, assignment sheets, and examples posted on Blackboard so that I could save them to my flash drive.

It's convient and efficient way to learn. It's easy to log on and learn about assignments or lectures. It saves resources by allowing the proffessor to make the information available without the expense of printing everything to a hard copy.

Its good to be able to communicate with the prof. and classmates without having to be physically in class with them.

Made information more available. I wish more professors would use it.

Made resources readily available.  Also helped with group projects

Makes assignments available if you need them (if you lost the hard copy etc.) Its nice to see your grades on blackboard.

My learning was only assisted by having the notes available before class.

Online collaboration with Polish students. Very enriching.

online quizzes were easy to get to and didn't take up valuable class time.

only by sending homework-via drop box. And keeping track of grades

Our assignments, examples, and checksheets were on Blackboard.

Our class was doing a collaborative project with students in Poland. This made it easier for file transfers and collaboration in general.

Our professor put all her in-class lectures on Powerpoint and put them in Blackboard under couse documents

our teacher put the powerpoints of her lectures on blackboard, and i was able to print them off and use them to take notes

Place to look for announcements that may have missed in class

Posting announcements and grades makes it easy to stay on track

Posting of study guides, powerpoint notes, and announcements

Professor Green posted links to help with writing speeches and links to assist us with whatever we were doing.

Provided Notes.

Sharing information with people from other countries is a good idea aand helpful with working on some projects.

Showed me my grades.

student communication/group correspondence

The application provided resources that were needed for the class.  It was helpful in that regard.

The articles assigned for this course were able to be retrieved from blackboard as oppossed to having our instructor pass out numerous articles.  I enjoy using blackboard

The blackboard was a new experiance in my learning process. I think that it would be more interesting if we can work online with our american friends more often. Our colaboration was rather unsatisfated because we don't know enough about blackboard and move on the web.

The discussion board allowed students in the class to share ideas and reflect upon concepts read in material selected for the class.

The Discussion Questions helped me to connect the material to my life. This had to be done outside of class time so I was thinking about the class more than usual.

the external links were helpful, the OED for example.  The discussion board was also helpful on clarifying a few things from the text and lecture.

The file exchange feature is great.  I did not know about this until this semester through my Eng 300.

the materials and documents posted were effective because it gave me early preparation on what to expect and know.

The prof would post grades and assignments on the site for us to download.

The professor listed many useful links

The quizzes were helpful because they provided good review after for me after reading the chapters.

Told me what assigments were due and what grade I had in my classes

Unfortunately, it did not.

Using blackboard in regards to discussion allowed for communication with other students that would not have occured without blackboard.

Very easy to use and has everything you need right at your fingertips. I think teachers should be required to use it, at least for grades.

We could see everyone's work posted on Blackboard in case we wanted to take the lessons for future teachings.

We did a lot of online discussions on blackboard and they helped me with the readings.

We didn't use it much in this class.

We had discussion boards with a probing question each week.  These discussions really helped me further my learning on the topics that we were covering in class.

We had to submit outside work to a group folder for other students to read.

We really have just used blackboard to post messages in the message boards with our groups. Blackboard really has no other use for this course.

We used a lot of listening examples that were posted on line. Also, all of our assignments and grades were posted.

We were able to post material for the entire class to see without having to make printed copies for everyone. This saved both time and money.
