1

Students posted questions about assignments and teacher responded back and I could read their messages.  This was helpful I had similar questions and blackboard saves all the messages for reference.

2

Announcements were posted.  Grades were posted.  Answers to problems were posted sometimes.  Discussion board was interesting although I personally did not get a lot of help from it.

3

Looking for the answers of the exercise.

4

Allowed easier checking of grades.  Discussion Board on exam allowed quick feedback to questions while preparing for exams.

5

In class our professor allowed to ask questions for exams over the discussion board and we were able to see other questions/answers that maybe we hadn't realized.  Answers to problems not covered in class were good as we could check answers.

6

When a question was asked everyone could see the question and answer.  Everyone was given a fair understanding on information even if they weren't in class.

7

Blackboard assisted my learning process by giving me access to check figures for the homework and also test q & a from classmates.

8

I was able to ask questions out of class and get some key figures to the problems in our homework.

9

It was helpful to have a discussion board.  Most likely if you have a question another student will have one too.  Then instead of just one student finding out the answer the whole class does.

10

The professor would always post a discussion board prior to each exam.  She would answer the questions quickly.

11

I thought the discussion boards were especially useful because you could ask the instructor questions and also the questions and comments of other students.

12

It was really helpful in getting my grades anytime.  Also the professor could post answers to homework, which helped me in studying for tests.

13

Exam questions--not the actual questions but questions about the exam--were asked by classmates and the teacher was able to answer them in the discussion board.  This solved any questions that I had and helped with the exam.

14

Blackboard assisted my learning process by giving me another way to communicate with my professor/classmates besides the classroom.

15

I don't think that it helped in the learning process but it aided in questions.

16

Assignment and such that were not able to be covered in class could be presented on Blackboard.  It was also extremely helpful to have access to an updated grade report.

17

This was the first time I used Blackboard.  The discussion board forums really helped--during tests.

18

Blackboard helped by giving another means of communication with the professor.  It was also useful to have the discussion board available to be able to work with other students.

19

If other students had questions they could post them and my prof would answer them.  In some incidents I had the same questions.

20

Blackboard was very useful in the learning process concerning posted information on-line to help students with their homework and evaluating progress but nothing more than that.

21

I liked being able to access documents that I might have missed due to absence.  I loved being able to view my grades whenever I wanted.  The discussion board was nice to be able to ask questions that came up out of class.

22

The group forums for discussion were very helpful.  The topics discussed were questions that a lot of students had and Ms. Adair and the other students were good about adding the information needed.  Also having course documents on Blackboard was convenient if a student lost her syllabus or assignment sheet.

23

Having other classmate’s opinion that I may not have heard before -being able to access grades and keep up communication with the professor.

24

It did not assist my learning process - I could have done it with a pen and paper just as easy.

25

Very convenient- I like having access

26

Discussion forums were easy to use once I figured it out.

27

Access to grades book- Updates on discussions- assignments information

28

I really enjoyed the discussion boards- It was easier to speak up online rather than in class

29

Only the professor assisted me by using blackboard with group projects.

30

I was able to communicate with random class members at a time that was convenient

31

Blackboard allowed me to talk to other students about topics.

32

We got great feedback from student on controversial topics on the discussion board.

33

Not very much- I just went to get my assignments and use the class discussion part to get a good grade.

34

Gave access to course documents and assignments.

35

I love being able to check my grades. Also it is always easy to check on assignments.

36

I liked it. I liked having assignments on blackboard.

37

Discussion Board. In my class- I got to see other views on some issues that were very opinionated. I also got to display my opinion.

38

I was able to learn new things about topics and what classmates felt based on the on-line discussions we had.

39

It was a different learning process.

42

We discussed issues that could be touchy subjects face to face. And were able to put a complete idea down without interruption.

43

Made discussions sharing opinions a lot easier.

44

I knew where I stood in class because of the grade book.

45

I think being able to access your grades is great and very helpful. Using the discussion groups was also valuable. Getting and doing assignments using blackboard. Also aids the learning process.

46

It is easy to get your point across and you do not have to travel to school to chat- carry on educational comments- etc.

47

It did not assist me in learning at all. I felt it was an inconvenience

48

Blackboard made it easier to have group on going discussions.

49

We used it to discuss topics in my political class. We broke up into groups for this. We also were given assignments websites and grades.

50

With discussions board. It gave me the opportunity to hear what others were thought and it opened up my opinions about things.

51

The discussion groups could have been good because more people could participate in blackboard than could during class. But we did not discuss so much as announce our positions. I didn't learn anything from sharing our unbiased and half-baked opinions with each other.

52

It allowed me to interact with my classmates and feel comfortable discussing issues with them and stating my opinion.  It also allowed me to learn other things from other people and talk to the teacher and kept track of my grade.

53

It made learning material a little easier to follow and grasp.  In this course particularly it made it more interesting.

54

By using Blackboard I was able to see the views of my classmates even those like myself who do not talk very often in class.  These other views helped me see aspects of issues that I hadn’t thought about before.

55

Made it easier to relate to fellow students.  I live far away and am only on campus for class meeting times.  Blackboard was as close to a distance-learning course as SVSU gets.

56

I was able to discuss things with my class easier and learned from external links.

58

Well it had my assignments for my class.  Also we used discussion board and it was required.  My grades!

59

The discussion board on issue was great.  Talking to classmates really showed me where the class stood.

60

It was great to be able to access the assignments online.  Also we were able to hear diverse opinions concerning controversial course topics because we discussed them in groups.  It really makes you evaluate and try to defend your opinion, which is great because you get experience in rethinking your views.  Also we used a discussion forum where everyone could post thoughts about the class.  The professor took our suggestions and made changes in the course as we went.

61

Being able to print terminology and go back and reprint class notes and assignments.

62

Test information and assignments

63

I don't know.

64

On-line syllabus--update assignment sheets--place to get prof's notes--exam

66

With the discussion board we do a lot of discussion on-line.

67

It helped with communication via e-mail.  I forgot an e-mail address and I was able to look it up on Blackboard.  It also helps having documents on-line in case I lose one I can print it off or refer to it again.

68

Helpful to have documents posted...but not really different than if the instructor posted to their web page site.

69

In this course Blackboard was not used extensively--although some of the lecture notes and quizzes were done on-line.  Links to additional web sites was also used.

70

The Blackboard was useful to get updates on class activities.  On-line quizzes also were used in this class.

73

I can see the course assignment before class then prepare it.  Because I am a international student putting the course assignment on blackboard is useful for me that I can use dictionary at same time

74

I can know what is going on in class and help me to make sure the assignments due day.  That's very useful.

75

It lets me easy go get me info about the course if I forget what our teacher said.

77

It is an easy way that I can get more information from teacher.

78

I can get more ideas from others thought which are listing on the discussion board forums.

79

Being a computer novice it opened up another area of technology that I was not aware of.

80

I feel that Blackboard would be great in assisting my learning process.  In this class we only used it at the beginning of the system because then there were problems with it.

81

We really only used Blackboard for the first few weeks so it wasn't a big help.

82

I kind of said everything under #3.

83

We were given a chance to write back and forth to each other on different comments questions and concerns we had.  It was easy accessing info from class.

84

Blackboard wasn't used as much as it was supposed to be.  I feel it had absolutely no effect on my learning process.

85

The non-threatening forum of the discussion board made the assignment less intimidating.  I liked the informalness of the discussion board.

86

It did not.  This class stopped using it before Spring break.  Plus the items he wanted us to talk about meant nothing to our understanding of technology in the classroom.

87

The only thing that helped me was discussing the assigned readings on discussion board.  It forced me to read the chapter in my book.  It only worked for the first four weeks then we never had anything on that anymore.

88

It was neat to use Blackboard and respond to other students in the class.  It made us more aware of how others felt and made us think about topics more.  We also received feedback from our professor this way.

89

I thought it was a great way to communicate with my classmates and instructor.  I like the part that we can discuss topics with each other and get clarification or swap viewpoints without having to wait until class meetings.

90

For class we used the discussion board and answered questions put to us by the instructor.

91

Blackboard helped me research more in my class text and additional materials because I was required to give a response back to my fellow students.  It also helped me become more organized with use of the assignment and task bars.

92

The quizzes required me to skim through the book before I read it to find terms and information.

93

We took quizzes and being able to see the correct answers reinforces the things I already knew and helped me to change what was wrong or because we could go back and redo the quizzes. Normally l liked knowing exactly what my grade was.

94

It was nice to see the grade you received on a test before the next class. I like doing my quizzes on the computer. But that was something I had to get used to. I like that all my grades are listed up on the screen so I can see them all at once.

95

It was very useful especially because we were able to take quizzes and review sheet readily once the professor made them available.

96

Was a study guide for exams.

97

It was really easy to take the online quizzes. We received our score right away and were able to do this right alone. It was very convenient. I also liked being able to check announcements. One time we had it posted that class was cancelled- very helpful. I was also able to easily access class notes from Blackboard. I also was able to email any of my classmates.

99

Allowed me to take quizzes at home at my own pace.

100

It helped me to keep an accurate idea of my grades.

101

I liked knowing what my grade was at all times.

102

We were able to take practice quizzes off Blackboard. We also could get study guides off Blackboard.

103

Didn't assist myself that much because the course didn't use it often.

104

Doing online quizzes.

105

Example test questions were on quizzes we had to take.

106

We had to take quizzes for each chapter.

107

It assisted me in taking quizzes that benefited my tests.

108

Yes. The books web page was down so we couldn't use their quizzes they offered. The teacher instead set up the quizzes on Blackboard. These quizzes helped with learning course material.

110

We used it in the quizzes and being able to take them over helped provided an A in the class.

111

None

112

The quizzes we took just allowed us to review the material.

113

For my adolescent psychology class we used Blackboard regularly to take quizzes and to see class assignments. Blackboard was very beneficial to me.

114

Helped me to get an A

115

Blackboard did not take class time that was needed to do the quizzes - also we could use our books when doing it so it took away a lot of pressure.

116

We were required to take quizzes off of Blackboard. These quizzes made up the tests. Therefore it helped a lot.

117

It gave me timed quizzes for the chapters in my human developmental class.

118

It helped me prepare better for classes and help contact the professor's email and web page.

119

Great medium of learning- Nice to get on when I had time and to take my time reading others' assignments.

120

I found Blackboard difficult to utilize whether it was from lack of knowledge or on hand use. I do not feel that Blackboard was an effective teaching method. It was useful for communication but difficult to access. I would not like to use it for a learning process. I prefer talking one on one and interacting with individuals. It provides for increased communication -interaction-exchange of information when learning happens in the classroom rather than Blackboard.

121

It was wonderful to be able to on line rather than having to drive in for class.

122

It was nice to be able to provide thoughtful input to everybody's ideas in a time slot that was convenient for me.

123

Self study- interesting-new format of learning.

124

Discussion board was helpful in seeing other points of view from other students.

125

I found Blackboard to be exciting and educational. I love to learn new things on the computer.

126

It allowed for more topics to be covered and allowed for more student input.

127

Flexibility - I work full time and live one and half hours from SVSU. So Blackboard allowed me to work on assignments when I had time. I learned more about how to affectively utilize computers.

128

I found the Blackboard format for education to be useful. It was a new concept for me. It was challenging to present directions that everyone could interpret and respond to. Even in our own group we thought the directions read differently. I can see benefits in it. It allows all the students to respond to a topic versus some students who are more vocal to hold most of the conversation. It allowed me to process the information at my pace and time frame. I could take as much time as I wanted to read and re-read each person's reply if I needed to I could also give individualized attention to each reply. I felt most of the students put more into their written replies than I have seen in the classroom setting. More of the story format came out in the Blackboard setting and not just facts. I saw the creativity of my fellow students and had a different perspective of each of them after reading their Blackboard replies. Another benefit to Blackboard is not needing to drive to class. Most of us have very busy lives and it does save on time.

129

I found the three assignments challenging and enlightening. Since there were different methods used to teach. I think it was useful and helpful. It gave me different ideas to use in my own arena. The humor assignments was just that...humorous. After all the responses I felt like I saw a different side of my colleagues. I did not always see them in the same light that they saw themselves, which was helpful to me. I see them in the classroom and maybe they are somewhat different in the practice arena. I felt like this was as appropriate assignment for the Blackboard. I really did not want to build my own website. Actually I dreaded it. But then once I got started I had a very enjoyable learning experience. I did things that I thought I would never be capable of. So this exercise really boosted my confidence on what I can accomplish on the computer. It certainly stretched my comfort zone and advanced my skill level. I enjoyed reading all the responses to change and the book "Who moves my cheese? "

130

Through discussion board I was able to gather feedback and information about the course assignments/projects/issues easily and quickly -and more frequently than usual.

131

I can learn something that I don't know about the class from the other classmates.

132

I learned to use Blackboard on the first class of 541. Dr. Gardner taught our class how to use Blackboard. He told us all the options of Blackboard.

133

The only way Blackboard assisted my learning process was that it was the only way we received the information- it was required. We only met in class six times so the rest was via Blackboard. I don't think it assisted my learning process at all. It was just another part of it.

134

I made use of the academics research opportunity quite a lot. Also the discussion board in class was helpful when discussing topics and offering many differing view points. The ability to post and swap documents with the group members was very useful and the many options open particularly to group work is fantastic.

135

It allowed me to learn a new program. I experienced a new approach of learning.

136

Blackboard assisted my learning process by allowing for 24/7 discussions. It allowed me to participate in class discussion at my discretion. I appreciated the on going feedback and discussion it allowed for.

137

By using Blackboard it was possible to hear opinions from everyone and not limited to only the boisterous .I didn't have to worry about losing my syllabus or professor information--it's all on-line.

138

Blackboard was good with group projects especially using the discussion board was handy. Also--emailing from it along with the file exchange was great for our group.

139

Enabled me to get to know and communicate with other students. I would not have communicated with otherwise. Easy access to other's thoughts course assignments - group projects- file- and discussion board helped immensely.

140

By the usage of discussion board We discussed matters not only from text book - but also from personal experience that relates to class and can be viewed by all class members

141

It forced me to actively participate in discussion. This discussion encouraged me to think through course concepts and debate--discuss and analyzed then with classmates.

142

Provided much more opportunity for detailed and in depth discussions among classmates. 'Conversations' could and did go on for days.

143

Because this was a self-directed class it was a must to use Blackboard for learning class material. Dr. Gardner was very organized in handling the course which helped in making Blackboard a useful tool to enhance learning.

144

Provided teacher/student information sharing -announcements etc. Allowed for group discussion. Allowed for learning to take place when it was convenient for user. Not present class time. Kept focus strictly on learning not on commuting interpersonal relationships.

145

Through the use of Blackboard we were able to discuss books that we read and get to find out what others thought about the book It was also good for the group work. Commonplace for files and discussion.

146

It helps to get other students input and opinions that would be less inclined to do so in class. Also you could ask all the other students questions and they would answer. This was helpful when things need clarification.

147

It didn't help me at all. I think that it is an excuse for instructors to get out of teaching in the classroom. The only thing that was helpful was when one instructor took the time to prepare notes for us in course documents other than that a complete waste of time and money.

148

We had journal groups and we responded to each other's journals. It was good because you could read what others thought and get input from them. You could also ask them or the professor questions or email them. It was much easier than trying to contact them otherwise.

149

Check the grades-- helped me to have discussions with classmates.

150

Being able to discuss class topics with other students was helpful.

151

I was able to converse with--discuss ideas and get feedback from others in the class to clear up topics that were being discussed.

152

In my English class we do mostly our journals--sometimes it was easier just to type out the journals and hit submit rather than write out the journals and forget to take them to class.

153

We participated in online journals, which allowed me to stay in touch and learn with my classmates outside of the classroom. We were able to learn others' thoughts and viewpoints.

154

It gave me a chance to know the opinions of other students about the course.

155

It enabled me to talk openly with all of my classmates and my professor. It made it easy to ask questions about class because everyone would check it and read the work.

156

It helps you to interact with other students.

157

I don't think it did. All we did was write journals on there and these did not help.

158

We were able to talk to fellow classmates about assignments and it was done at my convenience.

159

Getting other classmates perspectives and ideas on all journals. Being able to get homework down by simply typing what I wanted and I was able to express myself.

160

It was very well detailed. It was better to see something in front of you rather than having it in class.

161

I do not feel that Blackboard helped my learning. The class I used it for was for journal not really learning.

163

I did not enjoy it that much. It took too much time to make the extra effort. And it wasn't anything new that we were learning.

164

I liked being able to get my grades but over all I thought it was a pain in the butt. I feel that way because the instructors aren't very knowledgeable about it.

166

It gave me more opportunity to get together with classmates and talk about things that we may not understand.

167

Blackboard was just like a piece of paper to me. By typing the assignments out in Blackboard it took time where we could just do the same thing in class on written paper.

168

I interact with students that it normally wouldn't. We help each other.

169

Became proficient using the internet it was easy and accessible.

170

Convenient-- I liked it-- want it for next semester.

171

Blackboard has saved a lot of time. Everything is posted instantly.

172

I was able to work at home and not go to class, which was nice. I liked being able to check my grades. Also I liked having the announcements.

173

I was able to access assignments even when not in class. We were able to do group projects without having to meet face to face.

174

It provided outside opportunity to complete assignments. I could use Blackboard at anytime and did not have to schedule time in a lab or try to prepare assignments for class.

175

It freed me from class time enabling me to spend more time at home doing schoolwork. It also has given me immediate access to course work--course forums and grades.

176

It allowed me to meet with others using discussion board without having to coordinate everyone's schedules. I could do my assignments --check grades--etc when it was convenient for me.

177

It freed up some of my time. We used Blackboard   instead of having to attend lecture for 3 hours every week. It was nice because it saved me a lot of time.

178

Ability to see my grades at all times online stories all course documents over Blackboard  --use of discussion groups.

179

It was nice to have information available online. Much of class work was done on it. Being able to see grades quickly on it was nice.

180

It was fast and easy to use. It was like being in class from your house.

181

It was nice to be able to see my updated grades depending on the professor. It was also nice to work when I had time.

182

I could do class work on my time at different locations if needed.

183

I was able to check my announcements so I knew what I had to do or when things were due.

184

We were able to talk about our experience and respond to everyone else's. The instructor also responded.  We got good feedback about what was done good and what needed improvement.

185

It allowed everyone to be heard. We have some quiet people in our class who will not contribute. Here they were more comfortable to give input.

186

In my particular class we had to listen to individuals stories and respond to them. At home I was able to relay and think about my response more. I was able to be at home with my family yet get my course work done. This was a valuable asset to me and my family.

187

We could read the story responses and discussion board responses numerous times.

188

I was able to look up which assignments were due in class. I also liked being able to check my grade.

189

It provided access to detailed information and examples of our assignments.

190

I could always check for examples while doing my assignments.

191

Blackboard allowed me to check for professor’s announcements regarding class and projects. I was able to check for additional instructions on assignments as well as continually stay up to date on the course calendar.

192

I liked how our grades were posted. I wanted to know how I did an assignment I could just look it up.

193

Very helpful. I liked to be able to be off campus and be able to pull the latest announcements for class.

194

It made items more accessible when I had a question that way I didn't have to go to the teacher.

195

Blackboard. Allowed for me to have access to my grades, which I liked a lot. It also provided me with anytime access to my assignments.

196

It was very convenient. It helped me receive messages relayed from professor. It also let me get in touch with the other classmates.

197

Being a novice on the computer--everything I tried was a learning experience.

198

Did not assist learning. Was a convenient way of accessing syllabus- grade and assignments information. I would not like to use it for more than that.

199

Did not have to keep track of a paper course calendar. It I needed it I just logged in.

200

Blackboard   assisted me keep up on assignments --deadlines.

201

It just kept me on task with what was going on in the class. Any changes of adjustments that were made to the agenda-- were changed by the professor then viewed by me over Blackboard.

202

It made me more aware of the internet.

203

It has the course information readily to use. Daily announcements came in handy. And you always knew your grade with the help of the online grade book. I loved it.

204

If class was missed you can get grades- assignments-etc. Easy to get hold of professor and classmates.

205

I'm able to get my course information from where I'm at. The discussion has served as a way to communicate with classmates. I might not have met otherwise.

206

I was able to access Blackboard   to get a variety of helpful information from my instructor on how to do certain writing projects.

207

It allowed me to have access throughout the semester to the specifics of each assignment. It al
