Online Teaching & Learning

Are you taking or teaching an online or hybrid course this semester? A portion of your class meetings are online? Curious about what online course, club, organization or project spaces might help you accomplish? We are currently running two learning systems simultaneously: VSpace and VSpace.

SVSU's Electronic Learning Management System - VSpace

New! - Review the Winter 2008 VSpace Release Notes

VSpace is SVSU's branding of the Sakai project. Sakai is a set of open source software tools designed to help instructors, researchers, and students create online work spaces for collaboration. Using a web browser, course and group leaders choose from a set of features to create and develop a site that meets their needs. Sakai software is part of the Sakai Project (www.sakaiproject.org), an R&D project for creating open source collaborative tools for use in learning, research, and other types of distributed group work.

Currently, VSpace is an online system that will replace VSpace completely by May, 2008. As open source software, it is far more flexible in allowing us to improve the system and add functionality in-house, as well as to integrate enterprise-level functionality without increased licensing fees.
