CONSTITUTION

OF THE

MIDMICHIGAN CHAPTER, AMERICAN STATISTICAL ASSOCIATION

 

ARTICLE I - Name

This organization shall be known as the MIDMICHIGAN Chapter of the American Statistical Association.

 

ARTICLE II - Purpose

The Purpose of this organization shall be to foster in the broadest manner statistics and its applications, and to promote unity and effectiveness of effort among all groups in the Central Michigan area having an interest in or being concerned with statistical problems.

 

ARTICLE III - Membership

The membership of this organization shall consist of two classes:

Full Members: Persons holding membership in the American Statistical Association.

Associate Members: Persons interested in statistics in general or the organization in particular, who are not also members of the American Statistical Association.

 

ARTICLE IV - Officers

The officers of the organization shall be President, Vice President, Secretary-Treasurer, and Representative to the Association’s Council of Chapters. The President, Secretary-Treasurer, and Council Representative shall be full members. The officers shall be duly elected during an annual meeting except that the Executive Committee shall fill a vacancy in any office which may occur between the elections.

 

ARTICLE V - Executive Committee

The Executive Committee shall consist of the Officers mentioned in Article IV and the chairperson of each of the standing committees. Meetings of the Executive Committee shall be held whenever called by the President or requested by a majority of the Committee members.

ARTICLE VI - Committees

The committees of the organization shall consist of the standing committees mentioned below and of such special committees as may be appointed by the President and shall serve until their successors are appointed. The standing committees shall be a Program Committee and a Membership Committee.

 

ARTICLE VII - Meetings

There shall be two or more regular meetings in one year, including an annual meeting.

 

ARTICLE VIII - National Constitution and By-Laws

Any and all provisions of the Constitution and By-Laws of the American Statistical Association shall be considered included herein for use where applicable and necessary.

 

ARTICLE IX - Amendments

This Constitution may be amended by an affirmative 2/3 (two-thirds) vote of the chapter members at any meeting of this organization, provided notices of such meeting and of the proposed amendment shall have been sent to each voting member at least two weeks before the date of the meeting in which the proposed amendment is to be voted upon; or by action of the Board of Directors of the American Statistical Association. Votes on amendments include written and signed absentee ballots received by the Secretary-Treasurer prior to the meeting.

 

 

BYLAWS

MIDMICHIGAN CHAPTER

AMERICAN STATISTICAL ASSOCIATION

Membership. Membership is open to anyone who wishes to join and pay dues and whose goals are in accordance with Article II of the Constitution. A member will be in good standing for 13 months following the receipt of dues.

Dues. Dues shall be $6.00 per year. (Full-time students - $3.00 per year.)

Meetings. There shall be two or more meetings per year. Members shall be notified of the time and place of each meeting at a reasonable interval of time before the meeting. One meeting each year is designated the annual meeting which is understood to take place in the fall unless otherwise arranged.

Voting. Only members in good standing are allowed to vote. Unless otherwise specified, the voting on issues before this organization shall be by the raising of hands. Before any vote is taken, any member may request that the vote be by secret ballot. In this case, voting will be by secret ballot. A motion is considered passed if and only if a majority of the votes which are cast are favorable.

Officers. The officers of this organization shall be a President, Vice President, Secretary-Treasurer and Chapter Representative. The President shall conduct meetings in accordance with parliamentary procedures.

Election of Officers. The President, Vice President, Secretary-Treasurer shall be elected for a term of two (2) years at the annual meeting of each odd-numbered calendar year. The term of office shall begin January 1st of the following year. The Chapter Representative is elected for a 4-year term. A nominating committee appointed by the President shall nominate candidates to be presented to the membership. The membership shall be sent notice of the nomination at least two weeks before the date of the annual meeting. Votes on candidates include written and signed absentee ballots and write-ins. There may be nominations from the floor at the annual meeting before the vote is taken. A candidate is elected if the candidate receives the largest number of votes cast for any one candidate for the office. In the event of a tie, voting is continued for that office.

Executive Committee. The Executive Committee consists of the officers and the chairpersons of the Membership and Program Committees. The Executive Committee may conduct the regular business of the organization.

Committees. The committees of the organization shall consist of the standing committees mentioned below and of such special committees as may be appointed by the President. Members of the standing committee shall be appointed by the President and shall serve until their successors are appointed. The standing committees shall be a Program Committee and a Membership Committee.

Bylaws. Bylaws may be acted upon at any meeting, provided that the members have been sent a written statement of the proposed bylaws together with notice of the meeting at least two weeks before the date of the meeting. Votes on bylaws include written and signed absentee ballots received by the Secretary-Treasurer prior to the meeting. A bylaw is considered adopted if more than one-half (1/2) of all votes cast are favorable. A bylaw may be repealed by adoption of a bylaw to that effect.
