General Purpose

The University's campus-wide postal pick-up and delivery system exists primarily to expedite distribution and receipt of communications regarding University business. Similarly, fax machines at various locations around campus are intended to facilitate the exchange of urgent messages regarding University business. Although the University does not object to use of these systems for internal transmission of a limited number of personal communications, it should be clearly understood that the cost of external postage and fax transmissions for personal usage must be borne by the user. Approved costs for University business communications may be charged to departmental account numbers, but such charges are specifically prohibited for personal mass mailings and other correspondence. Distribution of political or sales materials via the campus mail system is inappropriate.

The pick-up of personal packages by University Mailroom staff is prohibited. The Mailroom offers window service for purchasing stamps and postal supplies as well as for sending personal packages. Individuals are responsible for taking personal packages to the Mailroom, and payment is expected at the time of service.
