Residential Life Staff

Each complex has designated professional and para-professional live-in staff. The most important role of the Residential Life (Res Life) team is to promote a sense of belonging and community in housing facilities.

Resident Directors
Each of the five Resident Directors is assigned to SVSU a residential community: 

Resident Directors are full-time professional members of the University staff.  One is on duty at all times, 24 hours per day/365 days per year.   The Resident Directors supervise their staff of Resident Assistants and Diversity Programs Assistants.

Resident Assistants
Resident Assistants are part-time, student employees who live in assigned areas of SVSU housing areas. RA’s are required to get to know residents, assist residents in getting to know each other, communicate a sense of outreach in order to address the needs of residents and promote accountability among residents for their participation and care for the community. Events and programs are sponsored by the RA during the year that are open to all individuals in their house/floor/area. The RA is supervised by the Resident Director.

Diversity Programs Assistants
The First Year Suites and Living Center North are each assigned a Diversity Programs Assistant (DPA).

These students are responsible for the same duties as Resident Assistants, but in addition, assist their Resident Director and the Office of Minority Student Services with administrative and programming responsibilities related to the success and retention of minority students.
