This workshop will give an introduction to Taoist movement, simple stretches and warm-ups, a qigong set called
The Eight Pieces of Brocade, and a short beginner’s Taiji set. The Eight Pieces of Brocade is one of the classic
qigong (breath training) sets. It builds and circulates energy and brings calm. Taijiquan (T’ai Chi Ch’uan), an exercise
that consists of slow, relaxed, and graceful movements, has been credited with improving health, promoting circulation
and joint mobility, and enhancing longevity.
Deng Ming-Dao is an author, martial artist, and Taoist. He is known nationally and internationally for nine books,
including The Chronicles of Tao, a biography of his Taoist master; 365 Tao, a book of daily meditations; and Scholar
warrior, a book showing how exercises, meditations, and philosophy combine into a single spiritual path. His
books have been translated into sixteen languages.
Over the course of four decades, Deng has trained with five teachers in Taijiquan, Xingyiquan, and Baguazhang,
qigong, weapons practice, philosophy, and meditation.
