This is the main web site for the Federal Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS). Here you can log in to the data collection site, research universities via their College Opportunities On-Line (COOL) Site (designed for college students), and the IPEDS Peer Analysis System for researching and comparison of like institutions. - Common Data Set Initiative
The Common Data Set (CDS) initiative is a collaborative effort among data providers in the higher education community and publishers to improve the quality and accuracy of information provided to all involved in a student's transition into higher education, as well as to reduce the reporting burden on data providers.

The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching contains the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education. The Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS), established as the core postsecondary education data collection program for NCES, is a system of surveys designed to collect data from all primary providers of postsecondary education. The Michigan Information Center (MIC) is a unit within the Department of Management and Budget. MIC provides user consultation regarding data availability and applicability as well as training activities for its Michigan State Data Center/Business and Industry Data Center (SDC/BIDC) statewide affiliate network. Although MIC focuses primarily on Michigan data, it receives and archives census data for the region, other states, and the nation.
Higher Education
- The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching
Andrew Carnegie founded The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching in 1905, "to do all things necessary to encourage, uphold and dignify the profession of teaching." The Foundation is the only advanced study center for teachers in the world and the third oldest foundation in the nation. A small group of distinguished scholars conducts the Foundation's research activities.
The Carnegie Foundation is also the home of the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education. According to the 2000 version of the Classification, Saginaw Valley State University is now classified as a Master's Colleges and Universities I institution. - College Board
The College Board is another of what we call popular data sources. Its web site gives information about and lists statistical tables from two College Board surveys --- the Annual Survey of Colleges, 1997-98 and Trends in Student Aid: 1987 to 1997. The site also allows you to view the Common Data Set questions and to join the Common Data Set Discussion Group.

Library of Congress LC offers a wide variety of online databases and Internet resources. It provides an easy-to-use gateway for searching other institutions' online catalogs and extensive links to resources on the Internet. You may want to see the LC Research Tools section of the home page, especially THOMAS, which provides full-text access to bills and resolutions under consideration in the current Congress and the two previous Congresses.
