We recommend that new international students live on campus when they first arrive to SVSU.
Most students find adjusting to a new culture much easier being in close proximity to the University and International Programs, as well as other international students.
Also, many students do not have a drivers license or a car when they first arrive. Most off campus housing is not situated within walking distance to the University.
To obtain on campus housing you will need to fill out the housing application that came with your admission materials and mail it to: SVSU International Programs, 7400 Bay Road, University Center, MI 48710 USA along with a $200 housing prepayment.
We CANNOT reserve housing unless we receive the $200 prepayment.
Housing is assigned first come first serve, based on when we receive the application AND the $200 prepayment. There is a chance that on campus housing will fill to capacity, especially in the fall semester, so get the application and prepayment in quickly.
You can find our additional information regarding SVSU housing by going to www.svsu.edu/housing. For questions regarding housing for International Students please contact Debbie Martin dmar@svsu.edu.
We are lucky to have several different types of modern and convenient housing on the campus at SVSU. Most units are apartment style housing with full kitchens, but there are also traditional style dormitories without kitchens and with required meal plans. All units are fully furnished and include phones, cable TV and internet connections.
International students are placed in either the University Village or Pine Grove apartment-style housing units. These rooms are equipped with kitchens, so many students choose to cook by themselves. Meal plans are available at an extra costs. The costs of the housing include all utilities (electricity, heating, air conditioning, water, local phone). The only additional cost is long distance (& international) phone calls.
The only things you will need to purchase or bring for your housing are bed linens, pillow, towels, kitchen utensils, and cleaning materials. All of these things can be purchased at nearby stores.
