Mandatory Orientation Program:
All new students are required to attend orientation. It is possible that you may lose scholarship privileges if you do not attend. There will be an International Student Orientation Program the week prior to classes beginning. This will help you settle into your new environment, learn about the campus, get acquainted with the services offered to you by SVSU, take your course placement tests, register for your courses, and participate in cultural activities.
Payment Information (see cost information included in envelope):
Payments can be made to Saginaw Valley State University by either a bank draft or in advance by wire transfer. Payment can also be made by American Express or Mastercard credit cards. If you plan to make a credit card payment, please be sure to contact your credit card company in advance, so the full amount can be charged upon arrival. For wire information, please email email@example.com. All fees for your first semester (tuition and housing) will be due when you arrive.
Health Insurance Requirement:
All international students (except embassy sponsored students) are required to purchase and maintain our international student medical insurance plan. Please note that this insurance does not include dental or vision care. Due to the high cost of health care in the U.S. we strongly recommend you visit your doctor for a medical, dental and vision check-up before you travel. During our orientation program all students will be tested for Tuberculosis as recommended by the World Health Organization (for more information please visit www.svsu.edu/oip). You are not required to participate in this test if you bring your own health card with proof of a recent Tuberculosis test.
Independent Bank (www.independentbank.com) is available on campus for your convenience. Representatives from Independent Bank will be available at orientation if you would like to set up an account. Please note there are a number of local banks available for your financial needs. If you would like more information please contact the OIP.
