At the beginning of each semester new international students interested in the program are matched with community members, domestic students, or SVSU employees based on a survey. It is then the responsibility of each group to determine how often they meet during the semester.
Although there is no formal application deadline, matches are made at the beginning of each semester. The earlier you apply, the easier it is for us to pair our new international students with their friends and families.
Please notify us as soon as possible if you change your mind about participating in the IFF program. You can email the Office of International and Advanced Studies at firstname.lastname@example.org and she will make the necessary changes.
Although we hope to foster friendships that will span more than the time our international students attend SVSU, our goal is to get our participants to communicate with these students so that they feel connected to the larger community. In the application, each participant identifies how often he or she would like to meet and we do our best to pair based on commitments identified.
Each group needs to make very clear at the beginning of each event/activity who will be responsible for paying for costs. It is not our intention for this program to be costly to either our students or participants. Please be mindful of costs when you make plans throughout the semester.
