“Whenever I think of these lines by Joseph Addison, my respect and love towards the education imparted by Saginaw Valley State University increases a thousand times.
I am Gurneet Chatha, a Mechanical Engineering major from India. I entered SVSU in the fall of 2005. Freshman year has been indelibly filled with memories of excitement, progress, adventure and primarily, a truly supportive education. I have been a member of the International Student Association, and I also joined SVSU’s Cardinal Formula Racing Team, where I get valuable hands-on experience on how to design and create a race car, which every year competes with different teams worldwide.
My plan is to graduate in about 3 years from SVSU and then search for an appropriate job.
SVSU has become a support figure for me. Being away from home, the University’s pleasant and serene atmosphere gives me the strength to do better every day. Moreover, I have made friends from so many countries that I get to learn a lot about their cultures and this helps me fight loneliness.
I would suggest SVSU to an international student because I think SVSU is one special university where a student gets to learn and enjoy at the same time. International students, especially, get full support from the professors and most of all from the Office of International Programs who organize several events to make the international students feel at home.”

Dr. Bing Yang works side-by-side students on his research to identify a gene that can lead to an early diagnosis of cancer. “Most people don’t realize the first class bio-medical research that is going on at SVSU. We’ve become an excellent state university, not only in teaching but in the outstanding research that is going on.”
