On-Campus Assistance

Office of International Programs

Works with incoming international students, American students interested in study abroad, and University and faculty exchanges. There are full-time staff members ready to provide advising, counseling and assistance to international students.

Additionally, OIP provides a variety of other services, including assistance with:

  • Academic questions
  • Employment opportunities
  • Banking and legal documents
  • VISA questions
  • Travel document preparation
  • Libraries
  • Medical insurance
  • Campus clubs, organizations, and club sports
  • Student life and housing

Student Host Family Program

The International Student Host Family Program matches international students at SVSU with an individual or family in the local community. Students are offered the support of a family away from home and have a chance to experience American culture outside the campus. Students may be invited to dinner, holiday celebrations, cultural events, sporting events, or family outing.

English Language Program

ELP (English Language Program) provides high-quality, intensive English instruction and opportunities for students to improve their English as well as familiarize themselves with the SVSU campus and the American educational system. Classes meet Monday through Thursday from 8:30 a.m.-3:15 p.m. ELP curriculum and courses are designed by teaching professionals to draw on students’ current abilities and to promote maximum progress.
