Just as there is more to France than Paris, and more to India than New Delhi, and more to Saudi Arabia than Riyadh, there is more to the United States than New York City or L.A.
SVSU more likely represents the “real” America than some other, more well-known communities. SVSU is in the U.S. Midwestern region; it is located close to the Mid Michigan tri-cities of Bay City, Midland and Saginaw. Saginaw is the largest city, with a population of about 60,000. Midland is home to Dow Chemical Company and Dow Corning; its population is about 40,000 and Bay City, located on the beautiful Saginaw Bay that feeds into the Great Lakes’ Lake Huron, has about the same number of residents as Midland.
People of the region are based in jobs primarily related to manufacturing, health care and service/tourism.
SVSU is nearby Detroit and Dearborn, home of the U.S.’s largest Arab community (90 minutes by car). Other major metropolitan areas include Toronto, Canada; Cleveland, OH, and Chicago, IL … all about 5 hours away.
In the Mid Michigan region, four seasons offer the complete picture of nature at its finest: comfortable and low humidity summers, brilliant falls with color, snowy winters that encourage outdoor activities like cross country skiing and snowshoeing, and spring to explore the beauty of water, woods and nature. North of the region, you will find some of the most beautiful scenery, settings, lakes and forests in all of the Midwest region of the U.S. From small city to farms, from woodlands to the Great Lakes, students and residents of the mid Michigan region are within a few hours of enjoying it all.
