Volunteer & Service Programs

Cardinal Volunteers

Monthly service projects and special events are sponsored by the Volunteer Center. We have opportunities for one time or long term engagements with various organizations in Bay, Midland and Saginaw Counties. Any student interested in performing community service should visit the Volunteer Center in the Student Center.

Habitat for Humanity

Habitat Trips

Student Life hosts Habitat for Humanity Collegiate Challenge trips every Winter, Spring, and Summer break. Students travel to various locations to work with local communities. Applications will be posted on OrgSync when trips are open and accepting students. Those selected to go on a trip will be required to attend a minimum of three pre-trip group meetings before their scheduled departure date and pay a small fee. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Jason Schoenmeyer at jsschoen@svsu.edu.

Alternative Breaks

The SVSU Alternative Break program offers opportunities for students to learn about an important social issue and then travel to another state, and sometimes other countries, to provide service relating to that particular issue. SVSU Alternative Breaks is a student-run, student-led program provided by SVSU Student Life Center. A drug and alcohol free program, it offers college students an "alternative" to the traditional university break. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Jason Schoenmeyer at jsschoen@svsu.edu.

Applications for Winter 2016 will be available beginning August 22, 2016. Deadline for applications is September 28, 2016. Applications are online, and interviews will be held on October 2nd from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
