Admission Requirements
Master of Science in Nursing (MSN/FNP) to Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP)
- A Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree from an accredited college or University with a cumulative GPA in graduate course work of 3.3 on a 4 point scale
- Current Family Nurse Practitioner Certification, continued eligibility for continuing certification and current Michigan license
- A completed graduate application with the non-refundable application fee to include:
- Official copies of undergraduate and graduate transcripts
- Essay goal statement with literature support – refer to criteria on graduate application
- Detailed curriculum vitae or résumé with current job title and description, employment history, education, scholarship, service and professional involvement
- Two (2) to three (3) letters of recommendation from a previous faculty member, employer and/or professional colleague. One must be from a doctorally prepared academician and one from clinical practice
- Graduate Record Examination (GRE) within six years
- College chemistry with grade of C (2.5 on a 4.0 scale) or higher, 3 credit course, general, organic or biochemistry
- Masters level statistics/research course with a grade of B (3.0 on a 4.0 scale) or higher equivalent to approved SVSU courses within last 7 years or demonstration of proficiency
- Interview for successfully screened applicants. Maybe conducted by video-call
INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS must complete the International Student Application for Graduate Admission with the non-refundable application fee to include all items listed above as well as provide:
- An academic report by the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools (www.cgfns.org)
- A score of 92 or higher on the Internet-based TOEFL (iBT), 580 Paper-based TOEFL (PBT), or an IELTS band score of 7.0
- Evidence of financial support
