SVSU Signs Agreement with Lambton College

Saginaw Valley State University signed an agreement today with Lambton College in Sarnia, Ontario to allow students to receive a teaching degree from SVSU. Under the arrangement, Canadian students will take two years of classes at Lambton College before entering SVSU’s teacher education program at St. Clair Community College in Port Huron, Mich.

Upon completing requirements, students will graduate with an SVSU degree and a valid Michigan teaching certificate at the elementary level. Ontario recognizes a Michigan certificate as a valid credential in the province.

"We are very encouraged about the prospects for this program, as are our partners," said Stephen P. Barbus, dean of the College of Education at SVSU. "Canada has difficulty meeting its current demand for teachers as teacher preparation institutions are few and scattered. We anticipate at least 25 students will enroll in this program in the first year."

SVSU will begin the program in the fall 2006 semester. Once enrolled at SVSU, students will be able to complete all of their required courses at St. Clair Community College.
