2011 MLK Service Project

In the spirit of furthering the dream of Martin Luther King, Jr., the Great Lakes Bay Region MLK Celebration Committee identified several service projects. Additional projects may be identified throughout the year.

Each Foundation participated in a minimum of one project:

  • Challenge Day A one-day program designed to address common high school issues such as peer pressures, cliques, negative judgments, harassment, isolation, stereotypes, racism, bullying, and violence. (Bay Area Community Foundation)

  • Community Christmas Closet Community Christmas Closet provides eligible families with clothing, while giving them a “shopping experience”.  (Midland Area Community Foundation)

  • Adopt-A-Family: Volunteers participated in a gift wrapping event to package items for families (Saginaw Area Community Foundation)

  • GOvolunteerNOW connects you with volunteer opportunities in the Great Lakes Bay Region.

  • Regional Day of Service – Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Youth Symposium (Jan. 17, 2011)
Bay, Midland, and Saginaw County students will discuss a range of topics dealing with issues related to promoting racial harmony in their communities. Volunteers will act as facilitators.
