Mr. Fredericks, a Michigan based public sculptor, is known nationally and internationally for his monumental figurative sculpture, such as The Spirit of Detroit, Coleman A. Young Municipal Center, Cleveland War Memorial, Cleveland, Ohio, The Expanding Universe Fountain, State Department Building, Washington, D. C. and Freedom of the Human Spirit, Flushing Meadow-Corona Park, New York.
School Tours
School Tours are approximately two hours and include the main exhibit gallery, the Sculptor's Studio, temporary exhibitions and an art activity. Museum tours meet the Michigan Content Expectations. Consider a visit to our multimedia pages for more exciting activity ideas.
Public Tours
Public Tours are one hour and include the main exhibit gallery of over 200 works, the Sculptor's Studio, and temporary exhibitions.
Main Exhibit Gallery
The main exhibit gallery features mostly plaster models that span a career of 70 years of sculpting. Many of the sculptures can be found in Michigan and in other states and countries. Highlights include: Christ on the Cross, The Fountain of Eternal Life, The Expanding Universe Fountain, The Freedom of the Human Spirit, The Leaping Gazelle, Saints and Sinners Fountain, The Spirit of Detroit, Lion and Mouse, Two Bears, and Boy and Bear.
Sculptor's Studio
The Sculptor's Studio displays a permanent exhibit of Marshall Fredericks' former Royal Oak, MI studio. It is filled with authentic objects arranged in a way that explains the casting process. Your tour guide discusses this process and you will have an opportunity to view the last sculpture the artist created "The Magic of Marshall M. Fredericks: The Casting of the Poet Lord Byron" DVD.
Temporary Exhibition Gallery
The temporary exhibition gallery features changing exhibitions of national, regional, and Michigan artists.
Sculpture Garden
During warmer weather, tour groups can enjoy over 20 of Fredericks' bronze sculptures in the Sculpture Garden on campus as part of their visit.
Art Activities
The Museum offers optional hands-on art activities that last approximately 30 minutes, depending on the age group. There is a $2.00 per person fee for each art activity.
Sculpting:
Students explore an additive and subtractive method of sculpting.
Soap Carving:
Students create a sculpture using a subtractive method.
Wire Sculpture:
Students create a wire sculpture from their drawings.
Drawing in the Museum:
For tour groups of 30 or less. Students experience drawing directly from Marshall Fredericks sculptures.
Tour Guidelines and Fees
Schedule public and school tours at least 4 weeks in advance. Up to 60 persons can be accepted for a tour. All tour requests will be confirmed in writing with a pre-tour packet.
Public tours are $3.00 per person, $2.00 per senior. School groups including chaperons and teachers are free. There is a $2.00 per student fee for each art activity. Grades K-6 must have one adult for every 5 students; grades 7-12 must have one chaperon for every 10 students.

The Museum is located in the Arbury Fine Arts Center on the campus of Saginaw Valley State University. The University is easily accessible from I-75 or Tittabawassee Road.
