MASER GENERATION II PROJECT
BACKGROUND INFORMATION
The Internet Web Site found contained on this CD-ROM is
the result of work completed by teachers who attended the
Generation
II: MASER project and the one week Mathematics and Science
Internet Workshop held each summer.
Workshop participants researched science Internet sites using
a set of developed evaluation criteria. A set of internet
learning activities for teachers and students were developed
which correlated directly with the Michigan Science Curriculum
Framework. The result is that teachers and students will
be
able to use the resources as a learning tool which is fully
integrated with their science curriculum.
This workshop was supported in part by the Mathematics and
Science Center grant awarded by the Michigan Department
of
Education (State School Aid Act) and by SVSU Partnership
Grant for Improving Teacher Quality awarded by the U.S.
Department
of Education (Title II funds). The contents of this CD-ROM
is also hosted by the Saginaw Valley State University web
site. The most up-to-date version of these sites can be found
by linking to: Science
Internet Site and the Mathematics
Internet Site found at the Regional
Math and Science Center on the Saginaw Valley State University
web site.
Each site page contains hypertext links related to the major
science topic contained on that page. A short paragraph
describes the type of information that can be found at
each
linked site. Information on each page is organized
by elementary (E), grades K-4; middle school (MS), grades
5-7;
and high school (HS), grades 8-12. By clicking on the hypertext
link, it will launch your internet connection to the source(s)
to achieve the expectation. Internet sites "New"
to the disk are marked and sites found by participants to
be "Outstanding"
are also identified.
The General Internet Sites are
Internet sites that do not meet specific science "Content
Statements and Expectations". Listed are numerous
outstanding sites which contain resources that will be
useful to teachers. The
"General Science Sites" contain links to
science knowledge in each of the major disciplines organized
by grade levels. Also found in this area are resources on
Assessments, Concept Maps and Misconceptions for Science.
The "General Resources Sites" contains
links organized under the following topics:
Miscellaneous Sites; Multiple
Subject Indexes; ScienceCenters/Museums/Aquariums/Zoos; Women/Minorities/Inventors;
Careers in Science;
Teacher Resources
1 (Information
/ Pictures / Diagrams / Movies / Videos / Animations); Teacher Resources 2
(Science Fair Projects / Science Games & Activities / Science News / Live
Web Cams / Museums & Science Centers) and Science Dictionaries. The "Using
Internet Media Resources" contains information about using
Internet media resources and other general information related to that topic.
