Rubrics
1. Discovery Schoool Assessments and Rubrics
  Now that we are using the Internet in the classroom to support instruction, it is important the area of assessment be addressed. One usable method for teachers is to provide a rubric for student use and for both formative and summative assessment purposes. Another is to provide some type of graphic organizer. Below you will find a collection of assessment rubrics and graphic organizers that may be helpful to you as you design your own. Let me know if you have one you would like to share! A book dealing with both the theoretical and practical design of rubrics is the ASCD publication.
2. PALS - Performance Assessment Links in Science
  This is a standards based site that contains a large bank of lab activity lesson plans (assessment science). It is very easy to search and navigate. It also includes rubrics and examples of student work.
3. RubiStar
  Outstanding RubiStar can help the teacher who wants to use rubrics but does not have the time to develop them from scratch. While many teachers want to use rubrics or are experimenting with writing them, they can be quite time-consuming to develop. RubiStar provides generic rubrics that can simply be printed and used for many typical projects and research assignments. RubiStar is unique because it provides these generic rubrics in a format that can be customized: Teachers can change almost all suggested text in the rubric to make it fit their own projects.

  This is the complete booklet (PDF) of New South Whales This test is similar to the MEAP. A 50 question science test for high school.

5. Elementary Science Items
  This site provides a sample test for the elementary science in life, physical, and earth sciences.
6. Explore Your Knowledge
  This site is a fun, interactive site geared towards 4th and 8th graders. They can choose questions either in math or science.
7. Florida's Comprehensive Assessment Test
  This is the complete booklet (PDF) of Florida's Comprehensive Assessment Test. This test is similar to the MEAP; includes different grade levels and subjects.
8. Interactive Fifth Grade Assessment
  Interactive online assessment in science for fifth grade from Virginia.
9. Interactive Quizzes
  Outstanding: This site has interactive quizzes in science and mathematics plus other content areas ready to be used as examples for all levels of science including high school life, earth, and physical science. The Virginia Department of Education has provided this on line and it is outstanding.
10. Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System
  This site has test items for a variety of grades. The items are very good.
11. Miscellaneous Science Items

  This is the site of examples used on NAEP assessments in science.
14. New York State Intermediate Test
  This site contains a complete copy of New York's proficiency test. It is a PDF file and contains answers. Good review for MEAP.
15. New York State Elementary/Intermediate Science
  This site is the archival site of science test items for New York State.
16. On Line Science Assessment Tools
  This site provides access to released items from various state and national standardized tests. All items have been coded to current Michigan Benchmarks and Assessment Standards. The database contains both multiple choice and constructed response questions and can be searched to develop a test built around specific content or assessment standards. After making your selections, a test will be created as an editable Word document.
17. Performance Assessment Links in Science (PALS)
  PALS is an on-line, standards-based, continually updated resource bank of science performance assessment tasks indexed via the National Science Education Standards (NSES). Assessments are available for both Math and Science. After selecting the standards to be assessed, it will provide tasks to be assessed along with a rubric to assess the task.
18. Physical Science Tests
  This site has different tests for different topics in physical science. The site is interactive. May be used after a unit of physical science is completed.
19. Quiz Hub
  This site has a number of quizzes on various topics in science and other areas. The site also has thinking games and logic puzzles. Quiz Hub is a fun no-nonsense user-friendly K-12 online interactive learning center. Quiz Hub members have access to hundreds of interactive learning quizzes that help enhance their knowledge of English language arts, foreign languages, geography, history, math, and science. Cost is $40.00 per year.

  This site has all the test items for all grades in Utah for science.
24. Science Quiz
  This site is an interactive quiz geared toward high school students. Immediate feedback. Questions change weekly and cover famous scientists and their discoveries.
25. Science Quizzes Search Engine
  Outstanding: This site has quizzes that are interactive in all science content areas and levels. This is an excellent database for test items.
26. Seventh Grade Test Items Utah
  Seventh Integrated Science 2003 test items in this pool represent the work of many Utah science teachers.
27. Standardized Test Item Finder - Science
  This site is a finder of released items for all 50 states, ACT, and NEAP in science and mathematics.
28. State of Washington 2008 Released Items
  Science released items 2001 to present. Mathematics is also included.

  Interactive site with realeased test items for grade 5th ,10th & 11th grade science.
31. TIMSS 2003 Released Test Items
  Test items that were released in 2003 for the fourth and eighth grades in mathematics and science.
32. TIMSS
  Third International Math and Science Study (TIMSS) is a research project sponsored by the International Assossication for the Evaluation of Education Acheivement. A quick 25 question quiz is provided by grade level in either math or science. Grade levels are divided into three categories; grades 3,4; grades 7,8; grade 12. Questions are similar to the MEAP.
33. Trends in TIMMS
  This site has additional test items for fourth and eighth grades. It is a good database of items.

  This is a unique site that links specific content expectations to test item.
35. Virginia Released Items
  This site contains the released items for all tests in Virginia in PDF form.
36. Virginia State Standards of Learning
  This site is very interactive. There are a number of different categories that can be chosen such as number of questions, specific topics, grade level and a lot more. Good site for MEAP review.
37. Who Wants to be a Millionaire?
  This is just like the TV game "Who Wants to be a Millionaire?", but only has science and math questions. Fun, interactive game. Focus is towards grades 7-9.
Test Taking Skills
1. Help Your Child Improve in Test-Taking
  This site maintained by the U.S. DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION OFFICE OF EDUCATIONAL RESEARCH AND IMPROVEMENT is designed as a guide for parents who want to help their child improve test taking skills and study skills. It includes sections on avoiding test anxiety, do's and don'ts, and what to do after the test.
2. Survival Strategies for Taking Tests This site lists 13 strategies for improving test taking skills. The first three tips list things to do "Before You Begin" and then lists ten tips for "Taking A Test." This a a very simple list of effective means to improve test taking skills.
3. Test Taking Skills
  This site is full of games, brain teasers, and puzzles that will enhance thinking skills. Improving and enhancing thinking skills will most always improve study skills and test taking skills.
4. Test Taking Tips
  This site, "Test Taking Tips," will help you study better and improve your test taking skills. Whether you're a high school or college student, tests are unavoidable. Learning proper studying and test taking techniques are a vital part of improving your grade and academic success. This site will help you with not only Test Taking Tips, but also includes links to Study Tips and Note Taking.
