1. Mathematics Games and Student Activities
  1. A+ Math
    This site gives a student an opportunity to play math games, ask questions, or get help on a homework problem. It is fun and interactive! The games include versions of bingo utilizing addition, subtraction, and multiplication. Another game is called Hidden Picture. Flashcards are also an option (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, fractions, and geometric shapes). These problems are great for second, third, and fourth grades!  This is a teacher resource site that is very handy for making flashcards to help with basic skills.  Worksheets for extra help can also be printed from this site.
  2. AAA Math
    This is an excellent site with hundreds of pages of basic math skills.  The pages include interactive practice, explaination of math topics, challenging games, and randomly created math problems for grades k-8.
  3. Appetizers and Lessons for Mathematics and Reason
    This site provides links to lessons and activities for math students and teachers.
  4. Algebra Four - Solving Equations
    This is an interactive game site in which one student competes against another classmate in solving one-step, two-step, variables on both sides, quadratic and distributive property. As students obtain the correct answer, they are given the opportunity to choose the location on the game board for their piece. The purpose is to get 4 of their game pieces in a row while having more practice at solving the equations. Students need to have much practice with this prior to use of the site.

    This site teaches arithmetic properties covered in K-8 math courses. Each page has an explanation interactive practice and challenge games about arithmetic properties. Students can practice, play and explore.

    Three different levels of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.  Base ten and printable activities are also available.
  7. Balance when Adding and Subtracting
    Interactive math activities for Algebra and Geometry. In this activity students use a scale to balance and solve equations.

    TSolve It! Math Videos provide problem solving practice for students in grades 3 to 6. Each set contains five multistep word problems with step by step video solutions.     This site has everything. It is not in the benchmark sections simply because it is so big. It has all the benchmarks as well as games and resources for all subject areas.

    This site has numerous games and activities for pre-school kids to high school. This is an outstanding site with great graphics and animations.

    Teach R Kids Math website is extensive, covering topics ranging from simple counting for preschoolers, to decimals, fractions, and division etc. for higher grade elementary school children.

This British site has math games, resources for arithmetic teachers, activity sheets for first grade students, and even a virtual math museum. This site is an excellent resource for both educational activities both in and out of the classroom.

  35. Houghton Mifflin Activities (K-8)
    Houghton Mifflin has provided many different activities for all levels of K-8 math. They may be copied for teacher use as long as you use the copyright provided. This site is always being updated.  Math topics include:  geometry and shapes, graphing, computation, measurement, scale drawing and sorting.

    This is an NCTM website with several activities and lessons available. There are plenty of interactive games for grades K-12 and also lessons for teachers. There are several other areas in math in which this site can be used.

    Play a "Connect-Four" style game, earning a game piece each time you answer an arithmetic question correctly. This game asks the players to add, subtract, multiply, and divide whole numbers and integers. Choose difficulty level, question types, and time limit.

    This website contains hundreds of powerpoint presentations for all levels of mathematics. Presentations include games - such as battleship and jeopardy, and teaching presentations.
  42. Kindergarten Math
    Math in kindergarten should be hands on - working from concrete experiences, to pictorial, to the abstract as students gain a greater understanding. Concepts are addressed in a large group setting through calendar activities, direct lessons, everyday routines, graphing, sorting, counting rhymes, etc. in relation to the theme or literature being studied, independent and small group work at centers and tubs, and one on one skills practice.

    This site is great for Grades 8-12. Within the specific subject areas (such as Algebra and Geometry) it shows some examples of the concept as well as showing a short video to help reinforce the topic.

    The site is not a typical mathematics site. It contains information on the history and famous people of mathematics as well as games and activities related to mathematics concepts.

    This is an organization that puts on math competitions. There is a place to get sample tests from the competitions they hold. This is a good source for review or a pre-testing students.

    This site has interactive activities and games for K-5.
  57. Math Playground Math Olympics
    Students are given 20 multiple choice questions that varies in range from word problems, fractions, percents, decimals, and more. Text box will pop up to let you try it again if you answer wrong, if you continue to get it wrong it will tell you the correct answer. Great review practice for gr.4-6.
  58. Math Trivia Grades 7-9
    A Jeopardy style game board set up for 1 or 2 players. The categories are Measurement, Numerical, Problem Solving, Algebra and Geometry.
  59. Math Tubs
    Math Tubs are simply plastic tubs containing games and hands on manipulatives for students to use that focus on a particular math concept. The tubs can be used as a directed center, one on one skill practice, or for additional reinforcement during free choice time once introduced. While working with the materials in each tub, students are practicing and developing one to one correspondence, numeral recognition, sorting skills, patterning skills, set recognition, etc.
    The math area also contains manipulatives such as size bears, unifix cubes, pattern blocks, plastic chain links, tiles, colored cubes, plastic animals, tangrams, etc. These are for students to use in conjunction with some of the math tub activities, but also for whole class lessons and free exploration.
  60. Mancala
    This interactive site allows students to play the game Mancala. It is an excellent resource for teachers to address multicultural mathematics in their classroom. The only drawback is that it does not give any of the history of the game.
  61. Math Advantage
    E-Lab is maintained by Harcourt Publishers and offers Math activities for grade levels K-8.

    This site has been designed to assist in the understanding of mathematical concepts ranging from Pre-Algebra to Calculus.
  64. Math in Daily Life
    Students look at the language of numbers through common situations, such as playing games or cooking. Using decision-making skills students decide whether buying or leasing a new car is right for them. They can also predict how much money they can save for retirement by using an interest calculator, as well as several other examples. This site crosses all the strands of math at the middle school level.

    Math version of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire testing them on all aspects of math operations.
  66. Math Poppers
    Students perform mental math to quickly pop the answer balloons and go on to the next, faster level.
  67. MegaConverter
    Interactive conversion table that converts all kinds of measure: time, temperature, angles and degrees. It also converts fractions to decimals. This is a student activity.
  68. Numeracy Hour
    This site has teaching tools, tests, games, many made by students to reinforce basic math concepts.
  69. Plane Math Activities
    Learn to choose the shortest route for a plane to fly.  Build your own kite.  There are nine activities to choose from in this site.  The NCTM standards are provided in the teacher resources section of each different game.
  70. Quia Mathematics
    Outstanding - This site has several different topics.  Within each topic the student can choose to play 1 to 5 different activities:  flashcard, matching, word search, concentration or simply solving the problem in a "Who Wants to be a Millionaire" type game.  Excellent for practice or review.
  71. Rags to Riches
    An game involving solving algebra equations. The style of the game is a multiple choice format with hints available and dollar amounts awarded for correct answers. A nice interactive review for beginning algebra students.
  72. Rainforest Maths
    Outstanding
    : What an awesome tool with so many different approaches for each concept! The students can pick different ways they want to count, complete patterns, learn geometry, work on measurement, and learn about data and probability. This site has a lot to offer and it is all grade leveled!

  74. The Maths File Game Show
    Outstanding-This site provides 12 games that cover several bench marks.  All games are performed by students and presents 3 levels of difficulty with immediate answers.  I rate this site a 5 star.
  75. The Math Page
    A comprehensive site with topics from basic addition to percents and ratios. Great as an on-line tutorial/refresher that offers step-by-step examples and explanations along with extra problems to assure mastery.
  76. The National Math Trail
    Outstanding - This site includes descriptions of activities that have been performed by other classes that you can reproduce in your own classroom.  The major focus of the project is to connect math to the real world.  In a math trail activity, students go out into their communities, find examples of the math they have been learning, and create problems related to their discoveries.  Students work in teams to document their work with photographs, drawings, narratives and maps to create trails that begin and end at their school. The trails wind through their community with stops at locations where they have found examples of mathematics. Each team creates a math trail book that can be shared with other students and parents.  The site also provides a place for students to post their work.
  77. Twenty-one Game New
    This fun game is designed for upper elementary students. The purpose is to teach the following math concepts: sets, division of threes, addition, and thinking skills. This game can be used to develop the participants's self esteem.
  78. Webmath
    This offers students assistance in math. Students can select the appropriate category and enter in their problem to solve it. Help categories include numbers and operations, measurement and geometry, Pre-Algebra, Algebra, Trigonometry, Calculus, Data Analysis and some problem solving.
  79. Mathszone
    Very interactive.  Two students have been locked in a dungeon, you need to find the numbers in a sequence to unlock the code for the two to escape.  There are several problem solving skills involved in this game.

    This site includes a collection of geometric student activities, such as making tesselations, using concepts of similarity, deducing angles, working with two-dimensional and three-dimensional shapes, window patterns from geometric shapes, geometric activities with string, multicultural mathematics, creating geometric figures from matches (toothpicks), games and puzzles.
