  1. "Know and Convert Among, Measurement Units Withing a Given System"
    1. Animal Weigh In
This site is recommended for 4th grade and up, may even be used with middle school. The site allows students to compare and estimate the weight of animals and gives them several chances before it helps them out. A balance scale activity which has the student drag weights to match the unit given.
    2. PBS Kids: Cyberchase
Students choose from 3 different pots to fill a given container in the game "Can You Fill It?".  Using estimation, students try to fill the container in the least amount of tries without spilling over.  This activity would help students to recognize changes in volume.
    3. Funbrain Shape Surveyor Geometry Game
Outstanding - This is an interactive game. You are on an archeological dig and have to solve problems as you dig. The student calculates the perimeter or area of a given figure. They are able to select from a variety of difficulty levels. This is a student activity.
    4. Geometry and Measurement
This is an interactive site that has activities for K-5 that include measuring angles, working with symmetry, teaching measures, and how much is it?
    5. Interactives: British and Metric Conversions
This interactive site explains the basic units and symbols used in mass, volume, length, and temperature in the metric system. It shows them how to convert one unit to another, and offers them a self-checking activity to try it themselves. This site would be appropriate for use with upper elementary or middle school students.
    6. Links Learning: Weight and Capacity
This site offers instruction and interactive activities to help students understand measurement. It would be appropriate for use at the upper elementary level. Students must choose appropriate units of measure, estimate the weight or capacity of the object, and convert units.
    7. Math Cats Convert Numbers
A helpful sites for students looking to take a given measurement and convert it to another form of measurement. ie… 27m = 88.50 ft., 2700 cm, and 1,063 inches.
    8. Mr. Nussbaum: Measurement Drills
This site contains interactive activities for converting units of measure within a given system. It is appropriate for use with upper elementary or middle school students.
    9. Mrs. Glosser's Math Goodies
This is an interactive site that provides students with the opportunity to practice finding the area of polygons. The site first reviews what polygons (squares, rectangles) are and shows students the formula for finding area (LxW). The site then gives students problems to solve on their own. This is a student activity.
    10. Shape Surveyor
This is a very fun and exciting interactive site. It allows the children to choose their level of difficulty from easy, medium, to hard. There is a choice to compute perimeter, area, or both. It is immediate self-checking and supplies the correct answer. This site is a student activity.
    11. Shape & Space in Geometry
This site provides students with the opportunity to investigate the relationship between the length of a diagonal of a square and one of its sides.
    12. USMA Commonly used Metric System Units, Symbols, Prefixes
A teacher reference for metric conversions, examples and relationships among units.
  2. "Find Areas of Geometric Shapes Using Formulas"
    1. Geometry and Measurement
This is an interactive site that has activities for K-5 that include measuring angles, working with symmetry, teaching measures, and how much is it?
    2. Shape & Space in Geometry
This site provides students with the opportunity to investigate the relationship between the length of a diagonal of a square and one of its sides.
  3. "Understand the Concept of Volume"
    1. AAA Math - Volume Select from a variety of activities about volume. Each activity has an instructional section followed by practice activities and several games to check your understanding of volume.
    2. BBC School's MegaShapes
Outstanding  Excellent geometry site for ages 4 to 11.  Follow the Investigate link for student activities that involve multiple choice questions about familiar regular shapes and irregular shapes.  While students complete these activites, they have access to a shape book that provides drawings and information about each shape.  Click on the bouncing triangle for interactive java activities that allow students to use their knowledge about shapes, symmetry, and transformations.  Follow the teacher link for information about the skills that are covered at this website, along with printable activities and resources.
    3. Geometry and Measurement
This is an interactive site that has activities for K-5 that include measuring angles, working with symmetry, teaching measures, and how much is it?
    4. Measuring Volume & Capacity
Develop the measurement concepts of your third, fourth, or fifth grade students with these resources for measuring volume and capacity. This printable packet is full of teaching advice and activities to help students better understand units and instruments for measurement.
    5. Measuring Volume With Gallon Man!
Students will begin this unit by learning about and brainstorming information as a whole class and in small groups about the measures of volume.
