| Fourth Grade
- "Measure Using Common
Tools and Appropriate Units"
- Judge
and Jury
Students explore non-standard units and compare
relative sizes of "steps" in this activity. They
determine how the size of each type of step is
important to how many steps it takes to measure
an object.
- Links Learning: Weight and Capcity New
This
site offers instruction and interactive activities
to help students understand measurement. It would
be appropriate for use at the upper elementary
level. Students must choose appropriate units
of measure, estimate the weight or capacity of
the object, and convert units.
- Measures New
Students have to measure the length
and weight of a package then read a chart to
determine the postage needed to mail it.
- Measure
It!
This site is student activity based. Students
must look at the ruler and decide how long the
bar above it is. It also keeps track of correct/incorrect
responses. Students can also choose what level
of difficulty they would like to be on. Children
must be able to read in order to respond. This
site would be appropriate for grades 2-5.
- Mr. Nussbaum: Graphing Drills - Reading a Thermometer New
This site contains interactive activities
for reading a thermometer. It is appropriate
for elementary students.
- PBS
Kids: Cyberchase
Students choose from 3 different pots to fill
a given container in the game "Can You Fill It?".
Using estimation, students try to fill the container
in the least amount of tries without spilling
over. This activity would help students
to recognize changes in volume.
- Shape
Surveyor
This is a very fun and exciting interactive site.
It allows the children to choose their level of
difficulty from easy, medium, to hard. There is
a choice to compute perimeter, area, or both.
It is immediate self-checking and supplies the
correct answer. This site is a student activity.
- Shape
& Space in Geometry
This site provides students with the opportunity
to investigate the relationship between the length
of a diagonal of a square and one of its sides.
- Surface Area New
This web site lets the student
practice finding the surface area of rectangular
prisms. It is a pay site, the student can get
up to 20 practice problems a day.
- "Convert Measurement
Units"
- Animal
Weigh In
This site is recommended for 4th grade and up, may even be used with middle school.
The site allows students to compare and estimate the weight of animals and gives
them several chances before it helps them out. A balance scale activity which
has the student drag weights to match the unit given.
- Customary Measurements
Matching game to
reinforce standard measurement equivilences.
Other games also at this site.
- Dositey.com
This is a printable worksheet
on time: hour, minute, seconds
- "Use Perimeter and
Area Formulas"
- Area and Perimeter
Game for figuring the
area and perimeter of various shapes and at different
skill levels.
- Finding Perimeter
Practice finding perimeter
with units for square and rectangle.
- Funbrain
Shape Surveyor Geometry Game
Outstanding - This
is an interactive game. You are on an archeological
dig and have to solve problems as you dig. The
student calculates the perimeter or area of a
given figure. They are able to select from a
variety of difficulty levels. This is a student
activity.
- Interactivate - Area ExplorerInteractive
learning and practice of perimeter and area.
It gives a shape on a grid and you find the perimeter
and area of the shape and has the option to choose
rectangular shape or irregular shapes.
- Interactivate
- Perimeter
Interactive learning and
practice of perimeter. Allows exploration for
students to use before answering in the game.
- Math Olympics
Students match the formulas
of basic polygons and circle with the name or
picture of the geometric shape.
- Mrs.
Glosser's Math Goodies
This is an interactive site that provides students with the opportunity to practice
finding the area of polygons. The site first reviews what polygons (squares,
rectangles) are and shows students the formula for finding area (LxW). The site
then gives students problems to solve on their own. This is a student activity.
- "Understand Right Angles"
- Inovations
Learning - Angles Game Angles are
very difficult to estimate, although we all know
that 90 degrees is a right angle (square corner).
Have a go at estimating some of the other angles
here.
- Right
Angle Interactive Maths Game
Create your
own character and play this interactive right
angles math game. Right Angles Interactive Maths
Game for kids, #1 maths program in Australian
schools.
- Virtual
Manipulatives Geometry
This site contains activities for students to
explore various geometric concepts using virtual
manipulatives. Explanations for use and links
to math standards are provided.
- "Problem Solving"
- Animal
Weigh In
This site is recommended for 4th grade and up,
may even be used with middle school. The site
allows students to compare and estimate the weight
of animals and gives them several chances before
it helps them out. A balance scale activity which
has the student drag weights to match the unit
given.
- Change
Maker Game
Outstanding
- Students make change and add their
money to a piggy bank. They can select the level
of difficulty from amounts less than $1.00 to
amounts over $100.00. A tally board keeps the
number of correct answers. This is a student activity.
