Mathematics Modules
These modules have been developed based on the New State Mathematics Objectives and the Teacher Support Guide. Each module highlights a given area and includes between 3 and 16 hands-on activities per module. Most materials are provided to complete the activities. There is a list of materials at the beginning of the book. This list includes the large equipment, consumables, and the items the teachers are responsible for providing. Each teacher is responsible for the return of all equipment listed on the Teacher Aids Section. Each module, depending on number of experiments included, will be checked out for a set period of time. In setting the time, consideration was given to teacher preparation. One week was included for the teacher to preview the activities and to become familiar with the procedures involved. The remaining weeks are for the actual completion of the activities. It is extremely important that the modules are returned on their due date. We have only allowed one week for restocking. The cost for these modules are free to our service area (Arenac, Bay, Midland, Saginaw, Tuscola) and $50.00 to any outlying districts.

AlgeBlocks

The materials in this kit are enough for 36 students. Packaged in three large tubs you will find: (1) Middle School Binder, (1) High School Binder, (1) Overhead Set, 36 Factor Tracks, 36 Basic Mats, 36 Sentences Mats, 36 Quadrant Mats, 12 containers of AlgeBlocks, 1 set of AlgeBlocks Activity Cards - Expressions & Operations, and 1 set of AlgeBlocks Activity Cards - Integers & Operations.
Additional Materials that can be checked out separately include:
1 - AlgeBlocks Video 1: Includes area models, basic operations with integers, identifying variables, and working with Basic Mat.
1 - AlgeBlocks Video 2: Covers algebraic expressions, factoring, operations with variables, special products, and using all three mats.
1 set - Demo AlgeBlocks - Manipulite blocks that are 650% larger than student size.
Algebra Tiles

Basic and Derived Measurement

This module contains 10 activities. The activities focus on how measurement became standardized, time, temperature, perimeter, area and volume. This unit involves estimating activities as well as questions for discussion or a writing activity.

Collection of hands-on experiences that seeks to engage students in the use of manipulatives to develop concepts of fractions and equivalence. Lessons include purposeful attention to defining the learning goals which are then connected to two features: evaluation and evidence.

Graph It Up

This module contains 10 activities with 1 and 2 day lessons, extensions, and evaluations for each activity. A two day assessment project is included as the last activity. The activities are designed to encourage students to become aware of the various types of graphs, their uses and methods of interpretation. Students are asked to construct, and interpret bar graphs, charts and tables, scattergrams, circle graphs, stem-and-leaf plots, and box-and-whisker plots. Also included are mean, median, quartiles and outliers.

This manipulative module contains four kits of each of the following math topics: Shapes and Logic, Counting Numbers, Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication, Division and Fractions. The math kits contain Learning Wrap-Up game boards, strings and easy instructions. Also included in the module is a video showing optional instructional tips, cassette tapes, and a Teacher's Manual with reproducible worksheets. The Learning Wrap-Ups are wonderful for the kinesthetic learner. They are student directed and allow for self teaching and self correcting. Motivational for students!
