For Jennifer Dore, coming to SVSU was about more than just finding a place where her credits would transfer.
During her final semester at Delta College, the marketing major knew she wanted to attend a university that would be able to provide her with hands-on experience in her field.
“I knew I wanted to get a position at Dow Corning or Dow Chemical, so that was part of the reason why I chose to stay in the area and transfer to SVSU,” she said. “I wanted an opportunity to get more experience in marketing.”
Dore recently completed her second year of a co-op position with Dow Corning, where she provided administrative support for marketing communication leaders, assisted in the management of a multimillion dollar budget and helped develop internal communications initiatives. Dore completed all of her core business classes at SVSU, and said that taking classes concurrently with her position at Dow Corning has provided a rare and valuable experience.
“Being able to learn different business theories and at the same time apply them to the real world definitely reinforces those concepts so I totally understand it and how it applies in a work environment,” she said.
With a multi-country trip to Europe, coupled with her Dow Corning position, Dore has already drawn interest from local employers about a future position. In addition to her co-op position at Dow Corning, Dore credits her involvement in Delta Sigma Pi, a co-ed business fraternity, for helping her transition to SVSU and get the most out of her time at the university.
“When I got really involved in the campus, I got more engaged in my own work as well,” she said.
