Health & Safety Week is held within the first month of the Fall semester. During that time an effort is made by Residential Life, in collaboration with other key University departments, to call attention to safety matters, such as, but not limited to: fire safety notifications & evacuation practice drills, personal safety on and near campus, and severe weather information.
In an effort to raise money to fund the Abou Traore Memorial Scholarship, SVSU's Men's & Women's Basketball teams (Pros) take on faculty & staff (Joes) in the annual Pros vs. Joes charity basketball game. Abou Traore was an international student who attended SVSU from 2005 to 2007. Sadly, Abou lost his life in a tragic accident before the start of the Fall 2007 semester. Abou was a pre-med major, whose dream was to return home to his country of Senegal as a doctor. He was preparing to be a Resident Assistant for the 2007-2008 academic year. There will be prizes, good times and a fun game to watch for all who attend!
