In Fall 2014, about 1,090 freshmen checked into their new homes in buildings such as First Year Suites, Living Center North, Living Center South, and Living Center Southwest. Faculty, staff, alumni and current student volunteers expedited the move-in process for a first-class service so freshmen could spend time with their families on their special day and put aside the stress of transporting belongings.
As the dust settles, introductions to your freshman class continue as the SVSU community takes over to welcome you home. FreshStart is the second phase of orientation (SOAR was your first phase) where you will get a refresh of campus navigation to provide a confidence boost for the start of classes.
Discovery awaits during the first year. You will learn what you'd like to explore more and we hope you do. Keep stepping into the classroom, keep stepping outside your room. In no time at all, you'll have the stories and memories to share..."remember when we were freshmen and...".
...AND, living on campus will be part of those memories.
First Year Suites
Freshman Themed Communities
We offer great freshman programs that will help your SVSU experience be everything you have dreamed college to be! In addition, our Programs of Distinction offer, to those who qualify and are selected, the opportunity to reside in a designated area for first year living.
For each program, students will be notified of their eligibility and invited to participate in the application process. For more information regarding these freshman interest programs, please contact the Office of Admissions at (989) 964-4200.
First Year Suites are designated for first-year students and central to most academic buildings. But, most importantly, it is the closest living area to the Marketplace at Doan, the largest dining facility on campus. The unique apartment-like design provides students with a spacious living/study room, private bathroom, kitchenette, lots of storage and two-person bedrooms. Over 450 first year students live in the suites.
