Director's News: Update  on the Library Construction and Renovation Project, continued

Fourth Floor….

The unique arched profile and roof of the 4th floor are in place.  Once the floor is in place, a number of subcontractors will be able to start working.  The push is now on to put up the walls and enclose the 4th floor before the winter weather is upon us.  When the 4th floor is completed approximately one year from now, it will provide space for the book collection, user seating, collaborative work rooms for students and faculty, and staff offices for the library's Technical Services department.  The real focal point of this floor, however, is the room located under the arched portion of the roof.  This room will feature a conference table for special meetings and functions, display cases, comfortable seating, and a superb view of the center of campus.  It has recently been officially named the Roberta R. Allen Reading Room in recognition of the Allen Foundation's significant contributions to Saginaw Valley State

University.   A press release from University Communications provides information about Roberta Allen and the celebration of the naming of the room.

And a Final Note….

While I have attempted to help you see what things will look like on each floor as the many phases of this complex renovation and construction project gradually come to completion, please realize that seating space will continue to be at a premium for a while longer, it will continue to be noisy, and dust will be just about everywhere.  Now that classes are back in session and more people are using the library, please understand that it may not be possible for library staff and student assistants to retrieve books from behind the construction walls immediately upon request; it may be necessary to come back a short time later to pick them up.  Your continuing patience and understanding are much appreciated!
