An online guide
for locating diversity information resources is now available to Zahnow
Library users. In collaboration with Mamie Thorns, Special Assistant to
the President, for Diversity Programs, Reference staff compiled print,
video and online resources focusing on diversity issues. The guide has
been well received by faculty who find it helpful to have references and
links to diversity resources all in one place. The guide can be found on the Research Assistance page accessed through the Quick Links menu on the library’s home page or directly at http://www.svsu.edu/library/diversitysubjectguide/. ROBERTA ALLEN READING ROOM WINS AWARD The lighting design in the new Roberta Allen Reading room has won an award from the Illuminating Engineering Society of America (Michigan Section). From the state level it will be submitted to the regional competition (Great Lakes Section). The creative cloud-like lighting was designed by Peter Basso Associates in Troy, Michigan.
NEW LIBRARY CAFE HOURS On Monday, February 9th, the library café began its new hours, Monday through Thursday 10:00am-6:30pm. The café is closed Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Later hours during the week should appeal to students who may want a bite to eat before evening classes.
The café’s menu offers soup, sandwiches, muffins and other snacks. Coffee, juices and other beverages are also available. The café is located on the library’s 3rd floor. The comfortable furniture, colorful décor and beautiful view of campus make the café a favorite place for students, staff and faculty to enjoy lunch or a quick snack. ZAHNOW LIBRARIAN TEACHES ENGLISH COURSE Tom Latuszek, Electronic Resources/Serials Catalog Librarian at Zahnow Library, is teaching an English course (ENGL 212, Introduction to Rhetoric/Topics in Critical Writing) this winter. Tom teaches students to evaluate films and scholarly articles as well as assist them in formulating persuasive essays based on specific critical positions the students take on the films. Some of the films included in the course are: Do the Right Thing (Spike Lee, 1989), Les Quatre Cents Coups (The 400 Blows) (François Truffaut, 1959) and Apocalypse Now (Francis Ford Coppola, 1979) in conjunction with Joseph Conrad's novel Heart of Darkness. STATE and FEDERAL TAX FORMS Again this year links
to state and federal tax forms are available on the library’s Internet
