Online Circulation Services

Did you know you can place holds on books found while searching CardCat? Once you have identified a book you would like to checkout, simply click the “Place Hold” icon in the upper right of your screen. You will be asked to type your name and the 14-digit barcode number found on your library card. Books with a status of “on-shelf” can be picked up at the Circulation Desk the following morning. If the book has a “checked-out” status, you will be contacted once the book is returned. Books are held at the Circulation Desk for a period of one week.

You can also view your circulation record at any time. This displays whether or not you have items checked-out, what the due date is, and if you have fines. This feature can be found on the library’s home page and you will once again be asked for your name and barcode number. If you have items checked-out which are not overdue, you can also renew items from this page. Simply click where it states the number of items checked out, select the items to be renewed in the far-left column, and click the “Renew Selected Items” button.

If you want to check out books or search databases from off campus, you will need to register either at the Circulation Desk or online. The online form can be found by clicking on the “About the Library” button to the left of the library home page, followed by the “Circulation and Media Services” button and the “Library Card” button. Simply fill in the requested information and submit the form.

Faculty members can keep their Reserve collection up to date online as well. To find these options click the “Instructor Guidelines” button found on the Circulation and Media Services page. Here you are able to request SVSU books to be placed on reserve or complete the Instructor letter/online form. This will tell Circulation staff to remove your reserves and return any personal materials, to keep your reserves available for the following semester, or to store your reserves for an upcoming semester.

On line circulation services generally take 24 hours to process. For additional information stop by the Circulation Desk, call 989 964-4240, or write to our e-mail address at circadm@library.svsu.edu
