New Catalog Librarian Joins Library Staff
The Melvin J. Zahnow Library welcomed its new Catalog Librarian, Anne Menard, on March 29, 2004.
Anne earned her Masters of Library and Information Science degree from Wayne State University in 1995. She has spent the last six years as the Cataloger at the Public Libraries of Saginaw. Anne served four years on the Michigan Library Association’s Access, Collections and Technical Services Roundtable Board, including one year as secretary. She has also chaired the Valley Library Consortium’s Serials, Cataloging and Acquisitions sub-committee during the selection of a new integrated library system for the VLC.
As the Catalog Librarian, Anne will be responsible for managing and supervising of the daily operations of the cataloging unit, as well as all of the original and complex cataloging in the library’s database. Additionally she will be responsible for authority control work and enhancement of bibliographic records in the database, implementing OCLC and Innovative Interfaces cataloging enhancements, and participating in the management of the library’s integrated system.
To experience first-hand how her cataloging work affects our users, Anne will be on duty at the Reference Desk for a few hours each week. And, she will participate in selecting materials for addition to the collection by serving as library liaison to the faculty in designated academic departments.
