New CardCat Feature Enables Easy Searching for Videos, Other Specific Collections

More news

Have you ever wanted to find only the videos Zahnow Library owns on a particular topic? Well, now you can with the implementation of a new feature in CardCat that creates a searchable subset of the library’s collection of videocassettes and DVD’s, separate from books and all other types of material.

This new capability was also added to assist those wishing to find only children’s literature or just electronic resources. These three specific collections – videos/DVD’s, children’s literature, and electronic resources – were created in response to some of the most frequently-asked questions of students and faculty.

Identifying all of the videos we own on the Civil War, for example, is a quick and easy process:

  • At the library home page, click on CardCat
  • To select a specific collection to search, click on the arrow on the drop-down box
  • Click on your choice (e.g., Videos & DVD’s)
  • Choose the type of search you want (e.g., Subject or Keyword), type in your subject or keyword, and then click on the Search button

Clicking on any of the Civil War-related subject headings that are displayed will take you to a list of the videos we have on that subject. You will also find the call number for each title, as well as an indication of whether it’s on the shelf or checked out.

If you would like any assistance in using this new CardCat feature, please contact the Reference Desk at ext. 4242.
