Library Café Opens

Library users can now enjoy coffee, soup, sandwiches, muffins and other snacks and beverages at the new café on the library’s 3rd floor. The café is open Monday through Thursday, 9am-4:30pm and Friday 9am-2:30pm. The comfortable furniture, colorful décor and beautiful view of campus make the café a favorite place for students, staff and faculty to enjoy lunch or a quick snack. Laptop connections are available, too!

In addition, please stop by soon and submit an entry in the "Name the Library Cafe" contest. Entry forms are located on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd floors. Deadline to submit entries is November 25th. The person who submits the chosen name will receive a prize offered by SVSU Dining Services.

New Book Shelf Back by Popular Demand

Faculty may remember in the past looking at new books on display in the Reference lobby area prior to the construction project. The “New Book Shelf” is now located on the 3rd floor next to the library café. Books are kept on the New Book Shelf for about a month before they are put in their permanent location in the library’s general collection. New books can be checked out at the Circulation Desk on first floor.

Circulation Email Notification

Since faculty and staff are allowed semester long check-out privileges, their due dates can sometimes be forgotten. As a courtesy, at the end of each semester the Circulation Department of the library will be sending “Reminder Notices” to faculty and staff two weeks before the library items are due.

Faculty and staff are still required to return items to the library for renewal due to the semester loan period. The online renewal is for students only.

Susan Cheney, Cataloger, says “Good-bye”

Susan Cheney, Catalog Librarian/Team Leader will be leaving SVSU for St. Joseph’s University in Philadelphia, PA at the end of November. Sue’s cataloging expertise, humor and football savvy will be greatly missed by all of us in the library. We wish her well on this next step in her library career. Sue’s collection development liaison responsibilities for psychology, political science and law will temporarily be managed by Jack Wood, Head of Circulation.

Patron Assistance Phones Available

Patron assistance phones are now available near the main stairwell doors on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th floors. They provide a direct line to the Circulation Desk and may be used for assistance in locating library materials or to summon library staff in an emergency.

Are You Interested in Forming a Book Discussion Group?

Faculty, staff and students who may be interested in forming a book discussion group are invited to get in touch with Linda Farynk, Library Director, at x. 4236 or lfarynk@svsu.edu.
