Changes Made to the Database Line-Up

In October, Zahnow Library users will notice changes in the selection of electronic databases available for research. Although many databases are purchased through the library’s acquisitions budget, many databases available to Zahnow Library users are purchased with state and federal grant money. The funding is managed by the Library of Michigan’s Access Michigan Program and the Michigan Electronic Library.

Michigan librarians are invited annually to participate in the selection of databases which will meet the needs of the public, academic, K-12 and special library users with content and price driving factors. This year, with the increasing cost of electronic resources, some databases were discontinued and others added.

DATABASES ADDED in October 2003:

  • InfoTrac Computer Database (computer, telecommunications, electronic industries)
  • Expanded Academic ASAP with Ingenta
  • General Business File ASAP
  • Health and Wellness Resource Center with the
    Alternative Health Module
  • InfoTrac OneFile with Ingenta
  • LegalTrac

    DATABASES DISCONTINUED:
  • After October 1st, the Business & Industry database will no longer be available. Use the Gale Business File ASAP or ProQuest’s ABI-INFORM for searching business related topics.
  • Several databases, including the Wilson Indexes and Abstracts are no longer funded via the Access Michigan Program. The abstracts and indexes are being funded this fiscal year through the library’s acquisitions budget.

A current list of databases available to Zahnow Library users can be found on the DATABASES link from the Library’s homepage at http://library.svsu.edu.
