Library Access to Resources
The Library is open to the public during its regular hours. In addition to its traditional print collections (books, journals, newspapers, reference materials) the Library also has media collections (CDs and videorecordings) and online resources (database, ejournals and ebooks).
Access specific to type of patron are found on the following pages:
General Policies
- General Collection books (3rd and 4th floors) as well as our Children's Literature Collection (4th floor ranging from picture books to Young Adult titles)
- These titles circulate freely to all users.
- Alumni and Visitors will need to get Library cards at the Circulation Desk .
- Alumni and Visitors with home libraries that participate in the MeL Visiting Patron program may also use this feature to check out our materials. Check with your home library for details
- Reference Collection books and print indexes
- These materials are in-library use only for all of our patrons
- Media
- CDs and videorecordings may be checked out by SVSU students, faculty and staff.
- Alumni and visitors will need to use these materials in the Library. We do have viewing rooms across from the Circulation Desk to facilitate this.
- Online resources
- Our subscription research databases, ejournals and ebooks are available to all of our users in the Library
- Remote access to these resources is limited to SVSU students, faculty and staff. Access to these resources requires a currently active SVSU username and password
- Computer access
- All of the public computers in the Library, including the Z-111 computer lab, are open to all SVSU students, faculty and staff using their SVSU network authorizations
- Contact the Circulation Desk (989.964.4240) if you have problems with remote access to our online resources.
- Alumni and visitors will need to go to the Reference Desk to be logged into the Reference area research computers.
- Printing charges for SVSU students is charged against your semester print allocation. See the Library Access for Students page for more information on this system.
- The Library is a campus wireless internet hotspot.
- A current SVSU network authorization (username and password) is required for access.
- See Matt Anderson at the 1st floor Circulation Desk or the 2nd floor Student Technology Center for assistance in setting up your laptop for wireless access.
