1.                  CALL TO ORDER

 

Chairman Vitito called the meeting to order at 1:28 p.m.

 

2.                  COMMUNICATIONS AND REQUESTS TO APPEAR BEFORE THE BOARD

 

President Gilbertson introduced Dr. Mamie Thorns, new Special Assistant to the President for Diversity Programs.

Professor Marcia Shannon, President of the Faculty Association, invited the Board to attend the presentation by Dr. Susie Emond, the Rush Distinguished Lecturer, on Thursday, October 10^th.

Professor Shannon thanked the members of the Faculty Associations negotiating team: Dr. David Schneider, Chief Negotiator; Dr. Janet Robinson; Dr. Larry Kickham; Dr. Paul Novak; and Dr. Surender Reddy.

Chairman Vitito thanked Professor Shannon and the negotiating team, and added that the Board was looking forward to years of working together with them.

3.                  ACTION ITEMS

1)                  Motion to Move to Informal Session to Discuss Bargaining Agreement

BM-977 It was moved and supported that the Board move to Informal Session to discuss the Bargaining Agreement.

 

The motion was APPROVED unanimously.

 

The Board moved to Informal Session at 1:32 p.m. and reconvened in Formal Session at 2:10 p.m.

RES-1513 Resolution to Approve Collective Bargaining Agreement with SVSU Faculty Association

 

2)                  It was moved and supported that the following resolution be adopted:

 

WHEREAS, Representatives of the Administration of Saginaw Valley State University and the SVSU Faculty Association reached a tentative agreement to replace the 1999-2001 agreement between the University and the Association on Tuesday, August 20, 2002; and

WHEREAS, The SVSU Faculty Association ratified the proposed agreement on Friday, August 23, 2002;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the Board of Control does hereby approve the collective bargaining agreement between Saginaw Valley State University and the SVSU Faculty Association covering the period from July 1, 2002 through June 30, 2005.

 

The motion was APPROVED unanimously.

 

4.                  ADJOURNMENT
