- The second floor library entrance opens into the concourse connecting the Zahnow building with the Science and Pioneer buildings (to the south) and Brown, Wickes and beyond (to the north). This entrance has limited hours during evenings, weekends and between semesters
- The Periodicals Service Desk is located at the 2nd floor entrance
- Besides the Periodicals area, the Library administrative offices and the Student Technology Center are located on this floor
Public Service Desks
- Periodicals service desk (located at the 2nd floor entrance): a help desk for locating and making copies from print or microform journals, magazines, etc.
- This desk also serves as a check-out desk for library books from the 3rd and 4th floor collections
- Student Technology Center and Professional & Technical Writing Center (located to the left of the Periodicals Service Desk) serves students needing assistance in using microcomputer software, etc.
- Center hours are limited but appointments may be made in advance for additional assistance. Appointments may also be made with STC tutors for special assignments, etc.
- Assistance with setting up wireless access on your personal laptops is available through the STC. Also assistance is available from Matt Anderson on the 1st floor (contact him through the Circulation Desk)
Public Access Computers
- Multimedia Training Lab (Z-235) is open to the public when not in use by STC staff (please check with the STC for availability). It includes the same software used by other SVSU computer labs
Public Access Equipment
- Photocopiers are located in a vestibule next to the Periodicals Office in front of the elevator
- Microform reader/printers are located along the west wall next to the photocopier vestibule. Please see the Periodicals Service Desk for assistance
Collections
- Periodicals Collection is split into four distinct sections:
- Current issues of magazines and journals are shelved by title on slanted shelving around the Periodicals Help Desk
- The most recent issue is displayed on the shelf, which lifts to reveal past issues
- Back issues of magazines and journals are bound together by year or volume and are shelved by title like books in the southern area of the Periodicals area
- Newspapers are shelved in hanging folders next to the current magazines and journals
- Microform collections are stored in cabinets and consist of back issues of journals in microfilm format, though there are some titles in microfiche
- ERIC Documents are located in file cabinets by ED number. These are in microfiche format
- Microfilm Books are shelved next to the microform periodicals but are shelved by call number
Staff Offices
- Library Administration Office (located next to the stairs/elevator):
- This is the office of the Library Director and is also the office to go to if you are interested in a student work study job in the Library
- Periodicals Assistant Office(next to photocopier vestibule): This is where you can go for assistance in finding or making copies of articles (in addition to the Periodicals Service Desk)
- Student Technology Center Administrator office (located on the north wall)
- Professional and Technical Writing Program (PTW) offices are located behind the Student Technology Center and can be accessed by a door north of the STC.
