  • The main entrance to the Library on the 1st floor opens into a commons area before proceeding into the Library proper
    • The Circulation Desk is located immediately to the right and the Reference Desk straight ahead

Public Service Desks

  • Circulation Desk (at the 1st floor entrance): this is where you check out books, class reserves, add money to your print balance, pay fines, etc.
  • Interlibrary Loan services are processed through the Circulation Desk
  • Reference Desk (past the Circulation Desk and facing the 1st floor entrance): this is where you go for research assistance, etc.

Public Access Computers

  • Z-111 Computer Lab (to the left of the Reference Desk): Mostly an open lab with the same software as the other SVSU open labs, Z-111 is also used for library instruction sessions and online course testing. Please check with the Reference Desk for availability as an open lab
  • Research PCs
    • There are three dedicated research computer clusters by the Reference Desk.
    • There are PCs in the lower area behind Reference that do have the full range of software comparable to the Z-111 lab.
  • The Library is a campus wireless internet hotspot. 
    • A current SVSU network authorization (username and password) is required for access. 
    • See Matt Anderson at the 1st floor Circulation Desk or the 2nd floor Student Technology Center for assistance in setting up your laptop for wireless access.

Public Access Rooms

  • Restrooms are located between the Reference Desk and the Z-111 computer lab
  • Study rooms (to the left in front of the Reference Desk): There is a group study room and a study room with a Kurzweil reader
  • Media Viewing Rooms (in front of the Circulation Desk): There are three rooms equipped for VHS and DVD videos, audio CDs and LP sound recordings, audiocassette tapes

Public Access Equipment

  • Photocopiers are located between the Circulation and Reference Desks in a vestibule next to the elevator
  • Printers
    • Three network printers are located with the Reference area computer clusters. Faculty, staff and students logged in to their SVSU network accounts will have print jobs routed to these printers
    • Two network printers are located in Z-111 lab for faculty, staff and students logged into their SVSU network accounts
    • A color printer ("Phaser") is located to the right of the Reference Desk. See the Reference Desk for assistance
    • Visitors using Library computers will have their print jobs routed to a public access printer behind the Circulation Desk

Collections

  • Reference Collection (in-library use only): located beyond the Reference Desk in the lower 1st floor area
  • New Books Collection (standard circulation): located behind the Reference Desk
  • Media Collection (videos, DVD's, music CDs and audiocassettes): located to the left of the Reference Desk
  • Archives and Special Collections (in-library use only): located behind the Circulation Desk
  • Class Reserves (limited use): located behind the Circulation Desk

Staff Offices

  • Access Services offices (located behind the Circulation Desk) include Circulation, Archives and Interlibrary Loan
  • Reference Services offices (located beyond the Reference Desk next to the Z-111 lab)
