Symantec Anti-Virus
Software License Agreement
SVSU has purchased a campus-wide site license of Symantec Anti-Virus (SAV) software. The license agreement allows employees (only full-time staff and full-time faculty) and currently registered students of SVSU to install ONE copy of the software on their personal home computer - FREE of CHARGE.
A stipulation of the agreement requires that if you are no longer employed or registered for classes, you must uninstall the software - discontinuing its use. This is an honor-based agreement. If you agree to the stipulation, click "I AGREE" and accept the security certificates and enter your login information, to download your FREE copy of the SAV Software.
• IMPORTANT: Prior to downloading and installing SAVHome, please remove any other anti-virus software you may have installed (ie. CSAV, McAfee, or previous/earlier versions of Norton/Symantec AV) . Failure to remove other anti-virus applications "may" result in your computer crashing and/or rebooting.
• To remove any application, open Control Panel and select Add/Remove Programs.
• Double-click the program and choose to Remove the software• If you encounter installation problems, you may need to "Stabilize" Your Windows PC and/or get your operating system updated. • REMOVE MALICIOUS SOFTWARE
Windows Updates performs this every time you go to Microsoft for updates. However, you can check your system more often for malicious software, you can do so by visiting the Malicious Software Removal Tool page on the Microsoft site and manually running the scan. (Microsoft updates this tool on the second Tuesday of each month.) Here's how:
- Connect Internet Explorer to the Malicious Software Removal Tool page.
- Click the Check My PC For Infection button.
- In the resulting Microsoft End-User License Agreement dialog box, read the license agreement, select the I Agree button, and then click Continue.
- Follow the onscreen instructions to set up the tool.
- Wait while the scan runs in the background.
- Review the report once the scan is complete.
Note: Keep in mind that this tool is not a replacement for an antivirus product.
