Do you allow wired and wireless routers on campus?
- No, we do not allow routers, but we do allow switches to be connected to the SVSU network.
Students who just need multiple ports may install their own switch. Below is a list of suggested switches.
Linksys: EZXS55W, EG005W, SD2005

D-Link: DGS-2205, DES-1105,
Students who need wireless in the Resident facilities will need to check out an SVSU switch from the Housing Office . The switch will require a deposit of $50, $30 of which will be refunded when the switch is checked back in. (Note these switches provide 3 extra ports.) Switches will be checked out for the entire academic year (Fall and Winter Semesters). Checkout deposits for chekcouts later in the year will not be prorated.
- Can I access wireless from my room on campus?
- SVSU does not provide wireless access points in the housing units. SVSU students who have leased a switch from the SVSU Housing Office will have wireless capabilities. SVSU offers wireless access points available throughout the campus, but not in housing due to the costs to implement such coverage. Please review the Wireless Coverage Policy and Hotspots posted online.
